We recently connected with Carrington Clinton and have shared our conversation below.
Carrington, appreciate you joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
For the most part, I am self reliant on my earnings from my career as a musician. At times, things aren’t that pretty or glamorous, but throughout the year, I am able to make it work and grind it out. Obviously then, there are times that flourish. It’s an up and down thing of living off the earnings as a musician but at the end of the day, I love making music and wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been playing music all of my life and have been playing music professionally for over 10 years now. Music is my passion and I enjoy it more than anything else in the world. I make music under the name Clint Breeze I’ve released over 10 projects over the last 11 years and have played All across Indiana in the country of United States. I have been fortunate to collaborate and work with so many talented artist. Some highlights include, Playing with Ravi Coltrane , going on tour with Durand Jones, building a legacy here as a leading musician in the Indianapolis scene, and more importantly, establishing myself as an educator all across the state of Indiana. I have worked with the Indianapolis jazz foundation, the Indianapolis arts Council, Indianapolis, public school system, inspire music, collective, arts for learning, Indiana humanities and so many more. I am grateful for all the work that I have done and continue to do here in this great state. I also enjoyed taking my talents and experiences to other states. My music and my work is all over the Internet, including website such as clintbreeze.com, bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and wherever you can find my music art and merchandise.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I would like to see more union based organizations that help musicians and artist and times of financial need. For example, in between gigs when gigs might be sparse and few and far between, it would be nice to have an organization or resources out there that I could rely on to help me pay my utilities and things of that nature.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part for me as a musician and creative is when people look at my work and they have legitimate and honest criticism and or feedback. That shows me that they respected my work enough to at least give it an opportunity for them, and that is all I could ask for. Especially, when people engage in your work and follow your journey and whether it’s good bad or anything in between, supportive and they have feedback along the way.
