We recently connected with Carrie Young and have shared our conversation below.
Carrie , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Sacred Soul was founded in hopes to make a change. I know, sounds cliché, right? I truly believe that in a world where “change” seems like an overwhelmingly impossible task, the best place to start is small… like really small—within ourselves. The reality is, the good and bad will always exist. No matter our efforts, we will never completely succeed at easing the world’s pain or ridding it of evil people, but we can make sure those around us are supported when facing life’s darkest moments. At Sacred Soul, we are looking forward to creating a safe space for soul enrichment of all types, for all people. This isn’t a place to come together with our similarities, but instead learn to come together despite our differences. I believe we all deserve to feel at home, and with that societal shift, we bring widespread change—one moment at a time.
The story behind my mission and how It came to be: I was adopted at birth and got pregnant at 17-as a single mother always working 3-4 jobs to make ends meet. In 2018 I began working for the state of California as an admin for our local CALFIRE station (you can google this story too, I’m an open book about it). One morning at work I was sexually assaulted at my desk, after reporting it to my boss and the sheriffs to make a long story short I was bullied and forced to resign from my job while the man who I no know had been doing this for years retired. This shot me into complete darkness, and I had two choices-to either let it consume me or overcome it. With that all the tools I share with Sacred Soul were found. I was homeless, broke and unhirable while fighting the state to keep my job on workers comp I was diagnosed with CPTSD & traditional medications were just exasperating the problem. I turned to my own research and holistic practices, and it saved by life. We each can save our own lives, by getting to know ourselves and what we need, and in turn bringing our natural gifts to the surface and blessing the world with what we were born to be.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Carrie Anne, and I’m the founder of Sacred Soul Balance. I was adopted at birth and raised as an only child, I have over ten biological siblings—some of whom I’ve built relationships with over time. I became a mom at seventeen, and my son is turning 21 this year. In 2017, after a divorce and feeling completely untethered, I moved from Chatsworth to San Luis Obispo to be closer to my parents and figure out what was next. In 2018, I was working at a CAL FIRE station when I was sexually assaulted at my desk. After reporting it, I was forced to resign, while the man responsible quietly retired. That experience pushed me into survival mode. I was suddenly unemployed, unhirable, and fighting a workers’ comp case with the state. I was diagnosed with complex PTSD, and nothing I was being offered was actually helping. Medications made things worse. I turned to my own research and began exploring holistic nutrition, brain science, alternative healing, and herbalism. Sacred Soul was built from the tools I found in that process.
I studied business in college and went on to complete certifications in Astrological Herbalism, Nutrition through NASM, and other holistic certifications. I also studied alternative healing and brain system science at Cal Poly Pomona. Years of working as a business consultant in the restaurant industry taught me how to manage chaos, adapt quickly, and build individualized systems—skills I now apply to working one-on-one with clients.
Sacred Soul Balance is a space where I combine handmade products, curated goods, and personalized services to support real healing. I rework vintage denim—I’m your Levi’s gal—and create patchwork pieces from old T-shirts, including shorts, sweatpants, and one-of-a-kind items you won’t find anywhere else. I also source and resell vintage clothing, including sundresses which I’m known for, which are staples for life on the Central Coast.
In addition to clothing, I handcraft natural, chemical-free home and body products meant to replace what people use every day. That includes body wash, body oils, foaming hand soaps, laundry sheets, toilet bowl cleaner, and dishwasher pods. I formulate every product with care, using ingredients that are clean, safe, and effective. These aren’t luxuries—they’re daily-use items that support your body rather than stress it out. Everything I create or curate is rooted in that mission: to eliminate harmful ingredients and bring joy, ease, and honesty back into daily life.
I also offer astrology readings with a focus on newborns, children, and family systems. I help people understand how their nervous systems work, what their individual needs are, and how to create rituals and rhythms that actually support them.
I’m most proud of the free downloadable guides I’ve written, which will be available when my updated website launches July 1. They’re practical, well-researched, and made for people who might not have access to traditional wellness support.
What I want people to know is this: I’m not offering one solution, one path, or one aesthetic. Sacred Soul isn’t here with a blueprint to copy, I’m here to help create one designed especially for you.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Literally everything. Our minds are so powerful, we don’t even realize the power we have over ourselves that’s been used against us this whole time. I was raised extremely religious. While god doesn’t care what we wear, demonize us or our internal thoughts, or even put us down for our mistakes the religion I was brought up in taught me he did. I didn’t realize how toxic that dynamic was on top of the toxic society I was raised in was. I thought all of these things to be true, I must be evil for dressing punk, so I might as well not care who I hang out around. Oh the things the little girl I was would have done with some love and encouragement…..but instead I was told to shut up and be thankful you’re not starving, and stop being so slutty in your tank tops, it’s making the boys unable to concentrate. I unlearned it all-I built confidence for the FIRST TIME in my entire life, I believed I had value for who I was not for how I acted or what I accomplished. One thing I never doubted was god, whoever he or she is, I always knew it’s existence in my heart and never needed to doubt, I just always needed to learn to listen to my intuition, the same one I was taught not to listen to growing up.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I was diagnosed autistic late in life, and before that, I spent a long time feeling like I just didn’t “get it.” I didn’t connect with the kind of creativity other people celebrated. I couldn’t relate to how they processed emotions, how they shared ideas, how they communicated or expressed themselves. I felt that maybe I wasn’t creative, unique, or had any value at all. This of corse had no truth, and once I stopped trying to match other people’s version of creativity and started paying attention to how mine showed up—through pattern recognition, sensory connection, system-building, and unconventional problem solving—I realized it was there all along. A lot of people struggle to understand that creativity doesn’t always look recognizable, sometimes it looks like structure, sometimes it looks like seeing what no one else sees yet—and making something useful out of it. We are all creative in our own way, and while each of our worlds are completely different-they are completely real for the person experiencing it.
