We recently connected with Carrie Stockwell and have shared our conversation below.

Carrie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear you experience with and lessons learned from recruiting and team building.

Building an amazing Team, with different and unique strengths, is my super power. I love to discover individuals natural and core strengths and then polish them until they shine! I believe in focusing heavily on what empowers people and not on their weaknesses. Everyone has powerful talents and when you are able to help people maximize those talents, they will rise to the top! The current Teams I lead are so incredible that every time we choose a focus, we can shift anything seemingly overnight!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I got into the beauty business because it is one of the most transformational industries in the world. Seeing the change in someone from the time they walk into the Salon, to the time they walk out, is my favorite part. I am a third generational hairstylist with a passion for Leadership and Education. I get pour my energy into all of my passions in one place! Being able to work with creative teams and lead passionate people everyday, makes my heart sing!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

The mission driving my journey everyday is creating a positive, wellness environment for people to come to everyday. Douglas J Aveda is a wellness company, we start each day with small impactful selfcare and we infuse every service with rituals that revive and renew the spirit. I am so grateful to be able to provide an uplifting environment for people but also be present in that environment on a daily basis.

Any advice for managing a team?

The most important advice I can offer for leading a team and maintaining high morale would be to set a positive and accepting tone each day. Be generous with praise, quick to smile and always on the lookout for a way to support others. I am naturally a lighthearted person and I find opportunities to lift others up and bring them into that energy and enthusiasm. The world can be heavy with pressure, lightening others spirits and celebrating their every achievement is the antidote.
