We were lucky to catch up with Carrie Sanders recently and have shared our conversation below.
Carrie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
I think asking friends and family for support is great! They can help spread the word and tell their friends about you and your business. I think expecting them to help keep your business afloat is where it goes too far. They can be there for you but it is up to you to keep your business running.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Merchandising and minor in Business at Sam Houston State University then went on to FIDM in Los Angeles and got my Professional Designated degree in Merchandise Marketing. In 2010 I opened my boutique, Carrie Ann in Uptown Park then just before Covid hit I closed my storefront in February 2020. I was ready to take Carrie Ann in a different direction and the timing worked out perfect for me. Now you can find my boutique at Painted Tree in Sugarland, Champions, and soon to be Humble this summer. I have focused on keeping my price point below $50. At Carrie Ann you can find women’s apparel, accessories, and dog items. Not only can you shop at Painted Tree but anything you see on our instagram @carrieannboutique is available for purchase!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think being consistent, honest, and fair has built and kept the reputation of Carrie Ann positive over the past 12 years. We truly care about our customers.
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
In 2020 Carrie Ann as well as many other businesses was effected in a negative way because everything was locked down and obviously shopping was not a priority. I chose to make the best out of a tough situation and started making my own tie-dye pieces/loungewear and it really took off! It took Carrie Ann in a different direction for the better.
