Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carrie Devaney. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Carrie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
One of my favorite stories happened recently, during a women’s circle I held last fall for a group of women coming into Ojai for a wedding. A women’s circle is a sacred container where we connect with the earth and each other in an intentional way. The bride wanted to incorporate a spiritual aspect into her wedding weekend—something meaningful and connective for the most important women in her life.
Her guests were a mix of childhood friends, college friends, colleagues, and family members, all coming from different places and backgrounds. Creating a deeply meaningful experience—especially a spiritual one—can be challenging when everyone comes from such different walks of life. But the intention was simple and powerful: to create a space where these women could connect with each other on a deeper level and offer their blessings to the bride before the celebrations officially began.
I arrived early at the hotel and set up a circle of blankets in the grass, with an altar of flowers and meaningful objects at the center. When the women arrived, there was a little nervous energy—many of them were meeting for the first time, and most had never participated in a women’s circle before. They weren’t sure what to expect.
But as the circle unfolded, something beautiful happened. Each woman had the opportunity to share vulnerably—where she was in her life, her connection to the bride, and a personal blessing for her. There was laughter. There were tears. The walls between them softened, and by the end of our time together, what had started as a group of near-strangers had become a unified circle of friends.
Instead of feeling stressed or preoccupied with making sure everyone else was okay, the bride began her weekend feeling completely supported and held. The women, in turn, felt seen, connected, and part of something bigger than themselves. That feeling carried through the entire wedding weekend, making everything even more special.
Afterward, the bride told me that the circle was the best decision she had made for her wedding. That moment stays with me because it’s exactly why I do this work—to create spaces where people feel deeply connected, supported, and reminded of the magic in simply being together.

Carrie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Carrie DeVaney, a professional lover of weirdos, magic, and big dreams. At the core of my work, I’m an intuitive psychic medium—but that work takes many shapes and forms these days. Ultimately, my purpose is to help people reconnect with their essential selves so they can create lives that feel deeply aligned, fulfilling, and true to who they are. And I believe that’s magical at its core.
I blend my gifts as a psychic with my training as a coach and ceremonialist to help people tune into the magic and joy that already exists within them.
How I Got Here
I first discovered my psychic abilities in my early 20s while training to become a massage therapist. I knew I wanted to help people feel better, and massage seemed like a good place to start. But as I worked on clients, I started receiving loud and clear guidance about them and their lives—so strong that I couldn’t ignore it. I had to share it, or it wouldn’t leave me alone.
At first, it felt strange. I wasn’t looking to be “psychic”—it just happened. But the insights that came through were so powerful, and my clients were so moved and grateful that I realized this was something real. Before I knew it, people were coming to me just for my readings.
Over time, I noticed a pattern: even when my clients received clear, life-changing guidance, they often struggled to make real changes. Knowing something deep in your heart is one thing—actually shifting your life to align with that truth is another. That’s what led me to train as a Wayfinder Life Coach with Martha Beck. I wanted to give my clients not just insight, but practical, science-backed tools to help them create real, lasting transformation.
Now, my work has evolved into a holistic practice that weaves together my skills as a Psychic Medium, Martha Beck Wayfinder Life Coach, and Ceremonialist. Through it all, one thing has remained true: we all have an inner knowing. My job isn’t to tell people what to do—it’s to help them hear and trust themselves.
What I Offer
My work takes many shapes, but at the core, it’s all about creating space for people to reconnect with themselves, trust their intuition, and step into the life that feels right for them. I offer a mix of intuitive guidance, coaching, and sacred gatherings to help people move through transitions, gain clarity, and find their way back to their magic.
Intuitive Readings – I connect with your guides and bring through insights that are loving, direct, and often exactly what you need to hear. These readings help illuminate where you’re at, what’s holding you back, and how to move forward in alignment with your soul’s path.
Life Coaching – Clarity is one thing, but actually living in alignment with that clarity is another. My coaching helps bridge that gap. I use a blend of intuition, practical coaching tools, and deep listening to help my clients take real steps toward the life they want.
Bodywork – Even though I no longer practice massage in the traditional sense, I still incorporate energy work and somatic healing in my sessions when needed. Sometimes, the body holds the answers we can’t quite put into words, and I love helping people tune into that wisdom.
Sacred Gatherings & Ceremonies – One of my greatest joys is creating sacred spaces where people can connect, share, and be witnessed. I lead women’s circles, wedding ceremonies, baby blessings, and other milestone celebrations that bring meaning and intention to life’s big moments.
What Makes My Work Different
I’m not here to give people cookie-cutter advice or generic spiritual guidance—I’m here to help them hear themselves. My work isn’t about following someone else’s blueprint for success or happiness; it’s about clearing out the noise so you can hear and trust your own inner wisdom. I blend the mystical with the practical, meaning my sessions aren’t just about receiving insights—they’re about integrating them into real, tangible change.
I also keep things real. Personal growth and spirituality don’t have to be heavy or overly serious. I believe in finding joy, laughing at the weirdness of life, and embracing the magic in the everyday.
What I’m Most Proud Of
I feel most honored when I get to witness people stepping into their truth—whether it’s through a reading, a coaching session, or a sacred gathering. Some of the most powerful experiences I have these days are when I’m holding women’s circles. The space we create in these gatherings allows us to pause, reflect, and connect on a deeper level than we usually do in our busy lives.
In a time when separation and disconnection feel so prevalent, coming together with the intention of seeing and honoring the perfectly imperfect in ourselves is a powerful act of love—and, in many ways, an act of rebellion.
I also love seeing my clients learn to finally trust themselves—when they realize they don’t need to look outside for answers because they already know the way. That moment of deep recognition is everything.
A Message to Anyone Who Feels Stuck
If you’re feeling lost, uncertain, or disconnected, I want you to know—you’re not broken, and you don’t need to be “fixed.” The answers you’re looking for are already inside of you. Sometimes, you just need a little help tuning back in. Whether through a reading, coaching, or a sacred gathering, my work is here to support you in coming home to yourself.
If this resonates, let’s connect. Magic happens when we start listening.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Beyond Training & Knowledge: What Truly Matters
My favorite meme says, “God, give me the confidence of a 22-year-old life coach.” It makes me laugh every time because while enthusiasm is great, real mastery in this work comes with experience.
I always knew I was meant to be a healer. Ever since I was 16, when I prayed for guidance and received a sign, I felt called to this path. But the truth is, no amount of training could have prepared me the way life itself has. My biggest advice? Don’t rush it. Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. And then practice, practice, practice.
In this kind of work—whether it’s intuitive readings, coaching, or holding sacred space—training and knowledge are valuable, but they’re not what make someone truly good at it. The most important qualities for success in this field are trust, presence, and a deep commitment to your own personal growth.
Trust is huge. You have to trust your intuition, trust what comes through for your clients, and trust the process even when you don’t have all the answers laid out in front of you. If I second-guessed every message I received in a reading, it wouldn’t be helpful to anyone. The more I trust what comes through, the clearer and more powerful the work becomes.
Presence is another key piece. It’s about being able to fully show up for the person in front of you—without distractions, without trying to “fix” them, and without imposing your own ideas onto their journey. Holding space is an art, and the best practitioners I know aren’t the ones with the most certifications; they’re the ones who make people feel seen, heard, and deeply understood.
And then there’s personal growth. You can’t guide people through transformation if you’re afraid of your own. Doing this work requires an ongoing willingness to examine yourself, heal your own wounds, and grow alongside the people you serve. I truly believe that the more I do my own inner work, the better I can show up for my clients.
At the end of the day, people don’t come to me because of a certificate on the wall. They come because they can feel that I’m real—that I’ve walked this path myself, that I trust what I do, and that I genuinely care.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Without a doubt—yes!
And yet, I absolutely tried to turn my back on what I now know is my calling. I have a giant thunderbird tattoo on my left arm because, when I was 21, I had a vision that I needed this symbol on my body—to remind me of my purpose, to be a bridge between Spirit and humans, between the unseen and the seen. At the time, I thought nothing would pull me away from my path. But I got the tattoo anyway… and wow, did I need it.
There were so many times when I didn’t want to do this work. I didn’t want to tell people I was a psychic. I wanted a “real job” with a real paycheck, insurance, and stability. I walked away from my calling over and over again, trying to fit in with my friends, my family, the rest of the “normal” world. But the truth? That was just an illusion—the idea that if you do what you’re supposed to do, you’ll be successful and fulfilled.
It’s a powerful illusion. And it’s completely false.
This is exactly what I help my clients unravel—because the only real success comes from being fully, unapologetically yourself.
Over time, I came to understand that my way of seeing the world—the magic, the intuition, the deep knowing—is just as “real” as anything else. And trusting that has changed everything, both in my work and in my life.
If I had chosen a different path, I don’t think I’d feel as fulfilled as I do now. This work isn’t just something I do—it’s who I am. There’s nothing like witnessing someone have a breakthrough, watching them reconnect with their own inner wisdom, or helping them see that they already hold the answers they’ve been searching for.
I also love that this path keeps evolving. I never thought I’d be saying out loud, “I’m an intuitive psychic medium. Yes, we can try to talk to your grandmother who passed away! Yes, she has advice for you.” As a super shy introvert, I never imagined myself leading large groups in sacred ceremonies or holding space for women’s circles. But here I am, and it feels more aligned than ever. This work grows with me, and I grow with it.
So yes, I’d choose this path again and again. And if I could go back, I’d tell myself to stop resisting the truth of who I am—because embracing it has been the greatest gift of all.
