Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carrie Davidson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Carrie, thanks for joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
As a yoga therapist, exercise physiologist and functional movement specialist, I was just venturing out on my own, in my business. One of my first clients came to me because she was in severe back pain and wanted alternative methods for pain relief. We started working together twice per week and her pain was gone within two weeks! This is where most people move on with their life, but she knew there was more I could offer her and continued to see me twice per week. She has learned better movement patterns, has gained so much strength and can do things as a 55 year old woman that she never thought she could do again! We also worked on her shoulder to free up space and increase range of motion. She feels better now than she did in her 20s. We continue to work together 1-2/week as she progresses her strength and skills. The best part is, with her condition (scoliosis) she knows how to move and what to do if she gets flared up from moving too quickly or inefficiently. She has been able to give herself her own “medicine”.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The two key pieces were word of mouth and actually doing the work! What I mean is, when someone comes to me with a condition, pain or something that they want to change physically, emotionally, or spiritually, my training and years of experience kicks in and I get in there and do the work. It may not be sexy or pretty, but I am right there with them, moving through it with them and holding space for them to heal without any expectation for pace or skill. We just work until they feel better in every way. Once you have started making people feel better physically, help them find their happiness or connect into their spiritual self, they tend to tell others about it! Like attracts like, so when others are hurting in the same way, those people find each other. The Universe (God/creator/etc) has a way of working things out in your favor. If you are hurting or healing, you tend to find people who are in the same boat or have been in the same boat as you and can provide support and guidance in your journey, too. So, once I have worked with people, they tend to refer other people to me and that has helped build my reputation and my business. My business is not about making money, it’s about making the world a better place.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Yes, 100% yes! I knew from a young age that I was going to be working through the human body. When I was in high school, I landed on exercise physiology as my area of interest, much to the dismay of my high school teacher who knew nothing about the profession. In fact, she made me write an essay on how to get the education I needed, what the career outlook was like, where I could find a job, how much money they made and find local businesses that employed exercise physiologists. I did this without hesitation, even though I was the only student who had to do it! I did it because I was out to prove that I knew this was my destined path and no one was going to stop me. I did my undergrad in 3 years and with honors. I never changed my major. I went on to grad school for a Master’s in Divinity which helped bring the spirit piece of body, mind, and soul together for me. I finished my doctorate degree a few years later, getting certified in yoga, fitness, and training along the way. Since then, I have completed my 800+hours to become a Yoga Therapist and keep all my fitness credentials as well. This has been the perfect path to set me up to help people heal the way I believe healing should happen. I truly believe, if I had gone to med school, I would have gotten lost in the system and bureaucracy of it all. This has been the perfect path for me. This is my dharma.
