Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carolyn Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Carolyn, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
The defining moment in my career was actually before my career even started. This was the point where others seen something in me that I did not even see in myself yet. My previous manager’s wife asked me to train her after seeing my fitness journey and transformation. I originally told her that I had no idea what I was doing, as far as training someone else, but she bet on me anyway. She had this amazing transformation, which brought so many new clients to me. That was the point that set my career in motion.
Carolyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a 32 year old woman, who has been in the fitness industry for 2 years on my own and 5 years, working in other gyms and with other trainers. I attended school for architecture and computer science, and do nothing with them now. However, I absolutely love what I do now. I love that my gym is different from others because it is a place where everyone feels like they belong. There is something here for every individual, even the children. I first started this industry because I felt good about myself when I decided to take control of my health and appearance. I loved the person I became. It takes so much strength and discipline when you are on a fitness journey and I felt myself embrace that. I decided to turn it into a business once it became my passion. I loved seeing other people get that same strength and discipline. I loved seeing people leave confident and empowered. I want people to know not to give up on their journey, whether its as a business owner or on their fitness journey. I want people to know that you have to love yourself on every part of your journey!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
One of the main things I tell anyone, is to be good to people from the heart and be genuine and honest with people. It helps to build your reputation and people will support you. Support others with love and not to receive anything in return. People will know when its genuine. I want to see people win, so I do things that can help them win, no matter how big or small it is. It has come back to me 10 times fold, in the form of my team of people, clients, support, and so much more.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I advise any one managing a team and maintaining high morale to be genuine in their interactions with the team. Make the team feel comfortable coming to you to communicate the good and the bad things. Also create safe and open spaces for everyone as a whole. Make the environment feel like a family. Laugh, joke and have events that create team comradery. You have to be a participant as well and get on the level of your team instead of presenting yourself as a superior only.
