We were lucky to catch up with Carolyn Ullrich recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Carolyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

As somebody who owns her own metaphysical practice I first decided to start the KC Mystic Fair because there was a lack for a space like it in the community. Nobody was really hosting metaphysical and spiritual events in Jackson county on a larger scale.

In addition there weren’t really any younger leaders in the community bringing different types of people together. So often when you think about spirituality or things like psychics and energy healers there’s a stereotype. The thing is, this community is so above and beyond that stereotype.

I wanted a space where no matter who you are, what you believe in, what you look like, what you practice, who and what you love, you can walk in and see at least one person that you felt like you can relate to.

I believe the way to truly reach “Enlightenment” if you will, or become closer to spirit, is by broadening your horizons. This includes getting out of your box. So surrounding yourself with different ideals, beliefs & people in an open and safe place to learn is very important.

Not only do my fairs allow other small business owners to display their talents and grow their own businesses, they are truly a place of growth & education for the community.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I think the most important thing for building an online presence is authenticity. If you aren’t authentic in who you are you’re not going to attract the people that you really want to attract.

Also I think reminding people that you are in fact a human as well is very important. And this means engaging with people in conversation. Building relationships. Being real!

Consistency and quality is also very important. This means posting regularly. Engaging regularly. Giving people valuable information. Caring about the way your post look and are articulated.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I would like to believe that my reputation has been built on the fact that I am who I say I am. And although I show up with a very strong and straightforward presence, I do it from a place of love and compassion.

I try very much to treat other people like I would like to be treated. I try to connect with people on a genuine human level. I believe that being authentic gives other people permission to also be authentic. I’m okay with showing up messy sometimes because that’s life.
