Carolyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Our entire business is built around the appreciation and elevation of small brands and makers. We are always on the hunt for truly unique pieces that aren’t just available anywhere. We have a special emphasis on items and brands that are local, handcrafted, charitable or Made in the USA.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
As I was earning my degree in fashion I realized that as much as I loved the industry there were a lot of things that didn’t align with my values. I couldn’t be part of an industry that was just turning out ultra high end goods the average person couldn’t afford or pumping out fast fashion pieces that would be in a landfill by the end of the year. I love the art and craft of the creation of beautiful things. While still in college I began creating handcrafted jewelry that I made here in the USA. I knew right away that was the right place for me. I’ve been designing and creating jewelry for over 12 years now. For years I had a business that was online and wholesale. In February 2020 I opened a storefront. I wanted to create more than just a jewelry store so now we have two stores connected. One is the jewelry store Carolyn Hearn Deigns, the other is US. Artisan Marketplace. It’s an enchanting store filled with amazing pieces from makers and brands locally and around the world.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My store opened February 2020. Due to COVID we were shutting our doors before we had our grand opening. I was forced to pivot constantly for months. I even changed our business model.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media presence will take time. Like with any marketing. Consistency is key.
