We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Caroline Mimms a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Caroline, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?

My parents have always been a huge part of my life. While they’re no longer together, one of the things they’ve consistently done right is showing up for me—and for my siblings—in whatever capacity they can. That unity, even through separation, has had a powerful impact on the way I view family, resilience, and support.

For a while, I was working full-time in commercial real estate as a property manager at our family-run company. Because of those family ties, I carried a lot of pressure not to let anyone down. But over time, I started feeling pulled in a different direction—toward my creative work and freelancing. The feeling became too loud to ignore.

I was nervous to tell my dad. I didn’t want to seem ungrateful or like I was walking away from something meaningful to our family. But when I finally did, his response was nothing but supportive. He understood, and that meant everything. Having his blessing gave me the peace of mind to make the leap with confidence.

My mom has also been one of my biggest cheerleaders—bragging about me to her friends, sharing my work, and always lifting me up with kind words about what I create. As someone who’s always looked up to both of them, that support is everything. It’s taught me that belief from the people who matter most can give you the courage to believe in yourself—and that’s been a driving force in my journey.

I’m Caroline Mimms, the founder and creative behind Mimms Media Photography—a Metro Atlanta-based photography and content creation brand that specializes in capturing bold, story-driven visuals for live events, concerts, portraits, branding, and commercial content.

My journey into this industry started while I was working full-time in commercial real estate at my family’s company. Although I was grateful for that opportunity, I always felt pulled toward something more creative and expressive. Photography began as a side hustle, but it quickly became the thing I couldn’t stop thinking about. With the full support of my family, I took the leap and decided to go all-in on Mimms Media—and I haven’t looked back.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

I’ve actually found a lot on Facebook groups local for creatives/models/photographers. Instagram as well!

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?

Websites like Udemy, Coursera have been super helpful. If I ever want to learn a new skill, like things in photoshop, etc, there is a detailed lesson on it on one of the sites
