Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caroline Lindskov. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Caroline thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am extremely happy as a business owner. It is tough being in charge of everything within the business. Maintaining a good and close relationship with customers whilst building and expanding a brand. I didn’t want to work 5 days a week for someone else, so now I work 24/7 haha. With that being said, it has always been my dream to work on my own terms and to have been so lucky to make that dream come true, I am grateful for the struggle.
To decide when I want to work and when I want to have a day off without having to ask for a boss’s permission is a blessing although it takes an insane amount of work. But I guess when you do what you love it doesn’t feel like work! Therefore, since starting my own business I have always been grateful for the opportunity to work by myself. The freedom is worth the struggles by a thousand!
Caroline, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Caroline, I am 25 years old and born in Denmark where I currently live.
My most defining moments in connection with my craft and passions was in 2018 where I went on a solo trip to India to take my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training Course after practicing Ashtanga Yoga for about 2 years. My journey towards knowing myself took a leap and I really started taking a huge interest in holistic health and well-being. On the same trip I got my first tattoo and my interest in body art kicked off as well!
After backpacking for 1.5 years, living a while in Australia, and visiting a total of 31 countries throughout my life, I could tell that I was in real need of being able to work with something that fit my love of holistic health and art – something I could work with on my own terms and something that I loved and that I could travel with.
In 2020 I started my first online business, The Nordic Yogi, as an online as a distributor of water ionisers from Japan and advocate of great holistic products and mindfulness practices. I love assisiting people in elevating their health and overall well-being and greater living standards! I take great pride in assisting people in loving their life both physically and mentally. I have been able to provide online global meditation sessions, recommending high end CBD oil, healthy living hydrogen rich water and hormone free birth control products. These great products and holistic practices checked off the box of an opportunity of being able to work whenever and wherever, as well as keeping me in the loop of diving deep into health and well-being. It has by far been the toughest business to push through!
Then, here in 2023 after tattooing for about 3 years, I started my second business as a tattoo artist. Here I provide tattoos within the fineline realm. I love doing ornaments and my signature flow lines! I have had a lot of luck with this business and I definitely think it is because of my holistic approach where I really put my client and their well-being first!
In both my businesses I put my clients first which is what I feel sets my brands aside from others. My goal is to make people feel safe, seen and heard. I make sure that they’re included in every step of the way and that they feel safe in sharing their thoughts and feelings during the process.
This is really what I’m most proud about. In this modern society we tend to forget each other and we forget to listen to each other and talk about things we’re dealing with. I feel like a lot of business owners forget that without their clients they don’t have a business. It is of course important to be able to make money and pay rent with your business, but when you’re more focused on the money, the outcome or the success, you start treating your customers like numbers and that definitely shines through in your brand. I take great pride in my down to earth and personal approach to my clients. With me you can always feel safe in knowing that you’re in a safe space, where I listen if you feel like talking, as well as I hold the space if you feel like being quiet. Whatever makes you feel safe.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Definitely though instagram and Facebook groups! The main thing when building your business is NETWORK! Join multiple Facebook groups within your field, do a few giveaways and do Instagram ads – this has helped me tremendously. I used to do a lot of niche orientated hashtags, but I didn’t see any real growth to be honest. With instagram ads I’ve been able to connect with people within my niche without having to fight a lot for it. Be consistent and build a brand by staying true to you, using brand colors and stick with your brand design! It’s all about visuals these days and unless people find your online presence visually appealing, it’s going to be hard for you to stand out and get your message out there!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Yes! I used to tattoo at home for a while, then I got a full time apprenticeship and now a few years later I work full time as a tattoo artist! It takes time but I recommend you finding your life goals and work backwards from there. Reverse engineering! By doing that you’re able to break down the steps in order for you to reach your goals and it helps making it more real and not so unattainable. I envisioned what a dream day would look like, reverse engineered and now just take my side hustles step by step until they all become a full time thing!
