We recently connected with Caroline Jurie and have shared our conversation below.
Caroline, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I believe Confidence is the most important tool that we need to sharpen. You could have looks, money, a great network and all that, but if you do not have confidence, it can hamper your progress. So, confidence is a big part of our growth.
It is this philosophy that drove me to think of Confiance when coming up with the name for my lashes and eyes brows salon business. Confiance means Confidence in the French language. I don’t consider that I’m in the business of eyebrows and lashes. I consider I am in the business of building confidence through grooming. This was the basis of how the name came about.

Caroline, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Caroline Jurie, from Colombo, Sri Lanka. I am the former Mrs. World 2020.
I won the Mrs. World Crown in Las Vegas in December 2019. On 21st April 2021 I gave up my crown and resigned from my title for reasons based on principle and the values I stood for. It was after giving up the crown that I ventured on a brand new journey, on a quest to create my own brand businesses. When you win a world title the endorsement contracts that come with it are lucrative and when you build on that you can pretty much map out your earnings and income for many years to come. However, if you give up the crown during your reigning year you lose your contracts, and everything goes up in flames. When making certain decisions in life you have to be willing to make the stand despite the fact that you stand to lose everything. I made that stand because I believed that the values I stood for mattered more to me than anything else.
So, I went back to the drawing board, I got an internship at an International Network Agency in Colombo – Ogilvy Sri Lanka, and learned the basics of brand building with the hope of creating my own brands. Right now, I have two brands under my belt, one is a Not-for-profit brand called JATAA, which is a cause driven brand to empower the fight against cancer. The other is my first commercial business venture – a lashes and eyebrows salon called CONFIANCE BY CAROLINE J.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I gave up the Mrs. World 2020 Crown and resigned from my title in April 2021, I knew I would lose my Brand Ambassador contracts and it would challenge me financially as marketers and brand owners would see no use of me for their brands without the Mrs. World title. I decided I am going to create my own brand although I knew it would be a tough journey and that I would have to step out of my comfort zone. So, once I resigned from my title, I started all over again. I joined the International Advertising Network Agency Ogilvy Sri Lanka as an intern and spent six months learning the basics about brands and communications.
My goal was to start my first business before I reached age 30 in October 2022. On August 01st 2022, two and a half months before I turned 30, I launched my first business – Confiance by Caroline J, a lashes and eyebrows salon, along with two partners. I’m happy to say that within five months of launching we are already planning to expand our service portfolio. This is just the start of my brand business journey.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I believe we can’t learn everything by ourselves through our own trials and errors. So, learning from other people’s experiences is the best way to get ahead in life and to achieve our dreams and goals. I have read and become inspired by books such as The Power and Alchemist.
I also watch videos from speakers such as Eric Thomas, David Goggins and Les Brown. They all help to get perspective and to keep going, especially on days when the energy is low, and you need some high octane to keep going.
