We recently connected with Caroline Jordan and have shared our conversation below.
Caroline , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I have been a certified health and fitness coach for over 25 years. I had established my business in San Francisco where I was very successful for 10 years with in person work teaching classes, consulting companies / corporate wellness, and working as an ambassador for large fitness brands. However it was a big dream of mine to move to San Diego. I longed for sunshine and a different quality of life. As an independent business owner, the thought of moving cities and “starting over” was terrifying. I waited for years, fantasying about making this big change. Then one day I visited my 95 year old grandmother (who’s still kicking major life butt) and told her about my dream to move to San Diego. I was worried about taking a chance and regretting my choice, she hugged me and said, “Trust me, honey, that’s not what you’re going to regret when you’re my age. If anything, you will likely kick yourself a little for not taking more chances on all of the possible opportunities you have today.
She’s right. Life is too short to wait. San Diego was calling me and I had to answer it.
So I took the leap of faith and moved to SD late 2018. At the time I had no in-person work in San Diego, like the thriving business I was leaving in SF. But I had a growing YouTube channel and some online work that was catching momentum and I thought it would be enough to tide me over until I figured out next steps. Whelp my online work turned out to be MUCH more than that. My Youtube channel specializes in injury friendly fitness with workouts to help people with different physical challenges stay fit. I also offer virtual coaching for special needs populations as well as content creation around fitness / wellness. I moved to San Diego, took the leap of faith, and then everything started taking off. Then COVID hit and the need for my work grew exponentially. Now 8 years after the move I find myself with a thriving online business that enables me to love my life in San Diego. Ive become known world-wide as the #1 source of injury friendly fitness on the internet and the go-to expert that teaches people how to use “movement as medicine” for mental and physical wellbeing. In fact the mayor of San Diego awarded me with an official proclamation declaring July 15th as “Movement Is Medicine Day” in San Diego in recognition of my years of service empowering our community to be active. San Diego is now my home for life!
Im beyond grateful I took that chance to follow my heart, leave the fog in SF, and move to sunny Southern California. I believe life is all about trusting yourself and taking chances, losing and finding happiness, learning from experience, appreciating the memories, realizing that every step is worth it. You just have to be willing to take those steps, trust yourself, and follow your heart. Every day is another chance to change your life. It’s NEVER easy, you have to do hard things to be happy. I work hard to make my San Diego dreams a reality and I love every second of it.

Caroline , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There was a time when movement was everything to me — my passion, my career, my identity. I lived to teach, coach, and inspire through fitness. But then, I suffered a foot injury that changed everything. Suddenly, the workouts I loved were off-limits. The active lifestyle I had built my entire world around… stopped.
At first, it felt devastating. I was scared, frustrated, and unsure of how to keep doing what I loved. But in that stillness — in that pause — something unexpected happened.
I realized I wasn’t alone.
Everywhere I looked, people were quietly struggling through injuries, pain, and physical limitations. People who wanted to stay active, positive, and strong… but didn’t know where to begin. And at that time, the fitness world wasn’t speaking to them. There were endless high-impact workouts, but not nearly enough resources for people who needed safe, empowering, healing movement.
So I turned my setback into a new path forward.
I began creating videos I needed for myself — gentle routines, seated workouts, Hurt Foot Fitness, strengthening sequences, and uplifting content for people navigating pain or recovery. I filmed from my tiny apartment, sometimes with a boot on my foot, sometimes with tears in my eyes, always with the hope that someone out there needed what I was creating as much as I did.
And then the messages started coming in.
“Your video helped me walk again.”
“I thought my fitness journey was over, but you gave me hope.”
“You helped me through the hardest weeks of my injury.”
My injury wasn’t the end of my career. It was the beginning of my purpose.
What I first saw as a limitation became the spark that helped me reach people around the world. My YouTube channel grew. My community expanded. My Hurt Foot Fitness program was born. And my mission became clear:
To help people stay active, positive, and strong — no matter what life throws at them.
That injury brought silver linings I never expected.
It taught me resilience.
It pushed me to innovate.
It deepened my compassion.
It gave birth to an entire library of accessible content.
And it created a global community built on hope, healing, and possibility.
Today, Caroline Jordan Fitness is so much more than workouts.
It’s a reminder that movement is medicine.
That setbacks can be opportunities.
And that you can still build a strong, fulfilling, joyful life — even when you’re healing.
My injury changed my life…
but helping others through theirs?
That changed my heart.
And that’s the story — the silver lining — behind everything I do.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built a large Youtube following by taking consistent action in providing content that has value to my target audience. I know my target client well and create video content that I know is what they are searching for. Outside of google, Youtube is the #1 search engine online. So learning how to use the Youtube platform as a search engine that will drive traffic to your business and create a good relationship with your potential customers is key. Youtube does have a bit of a science to it, but once you learn about how the platform works and how it can showcase your expertise and allow you to build trust with your audience, then you can leverage it to grow and build your business.
