We were lucky to catch up with Caroline Favre recently and have shared our conversation below.
Caroline, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents never told me that something was impossible, but they always exposed me to the reality that certain paths required a lot of work.
This is why I never believed that something was impossible, but I was aware that it could potentially involve a lot of effort.
So when I decided at the age of 19 to leave France and my studies to discover Germany and my path, my parents did not try to dissuade me. On the contrary, my mother supported me immensely in my project, and once my father got over the “shock” of me leaving our beloved France, he supported me and did everything to help me achieve my goals.
This mindset has had a great impact on my life and career in general because I know that nothing is impossible, but everything requires personal investment.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Caroline, currently 30 years old, and I have been living in Berlin, Germany for more than 11 years. During my time here, I have pursued various career paths, starting as a Physical Therapist, then becoming an Osteopath, and finally a Life and Holistic Health Coach.
My journey into the medical field began with physiotherapy, but I soon realized its limitations when faced with unknown problems, such as unexplained back pain. Although I have grown to love this profession, I quickly made the decision to train in a lesser known manual technique in Germany – osteopathy. Osteopathy is a gentle form of medicine that considers the patient as a whole, allowing for the exploration of pain causes in other body systems through extensive anatomical knowledge.
After completing my osteopathy exams, I observed that my patients were not taking responsibility for their own health and bodies during treatment, often returning with the same issues weeks later. This led me to recognize the importance of integrating the mental aspect into physical treatments. To address this, I underwent coaching training, enabling me to guide my patients towards self-responsibility and self-commitment.
Currently, I offer physiotherapy and osteopathy services at a clinic located in the center of Berlin. Additionally, I provide support through 3 or 6 coaching sessions, primarily conducted online but also available in person. I also offer a combined osteopathy and coaching program called OSTEOMIND.
The purpose of my coaching support is to empower individuals to find solutions to their own health or life problems, such as career transitions that impact physical health. I mainly focus on supporting women of all ages in thriving in all aspects of their lives, by providing them with a deep understanding of female physiology. This knowledge allows them to live in harmony with their bodies and embrace their natural cycles.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I have been very fortunate to be quickly recommended within the French and Francophone expat community here in Berlin. Being French myself, I quickly noticed that expats were seeking to be able to communicate about subjects where they feel vulnerable in their native language. This has greatly helped me develop a loyal client base who refer new clients to me through word of mouth.
Beyond that, I believe that the best strategy is humility. By this, I mean it is better to demonstrate our skills and abilities through actions. In my case, this involves helping individuals overcome physical problems through physiotherapy and osteopathy, as well as addressing any emotional and mental barriers by providing coaching and teaching basic human physiology to help them understand their bodies. It is more effective to focus on assisting others rather than boasting or advertising.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I strongly believe that cultivating empathy, curiosity, and the ability to truly understand and empathize with others is of utmost importance. When we are able to put ourselves in their shoes and grasp their needs and challenges, we can then proceed to develop innovative solutions that are tailored to their unique requirements and lifestyles. Furthermore, this approach enables us to identify any detrimental habits or behaviors that may be adversely affecting their overall well-being and health.
