We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Caroline Delmont a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Caroline thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I am so beyond happy to be a business owner but it is not always the easiest job to have. I do not have anyone else to answer to. Therefore my success solely relies on me being persistent. I have worked jobs in the past where I have a boss and it never worked out for me. I remember telling my parents when I was seventeen years old that I wanted to be my own boss and create my own schedule. They for sure thought I was crazy until they watched me become everything I told them I would be. Being in control of my day-to-day schedule is so important to me. I have worked really hard to be where I am at in life. Being in charge of my own business gives me ample opportunities to grow. There is no end point to how successful someone can be when owning their own business.
Caroline, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Caroline Delmont! I have been in the beauty industry for almost 7 years now. I started this journey my junior year of college. I was doing eyelash extensions out of my college apartment and going to school full time for nursing. I quickly realized that the beauty industry was a place I could grow and flourish. I never looked back. Something that sets me aside from others is that I genuinely look at all of my clients as family. I always try to build a strong relationship with my clients so that they feel comfortable. For weddings, I have had multiple brides express how at ease they felt because I always checked in with them prior to their big day. Many vendors won’t do that. It’s important to me that they know it’s not just about money. I want them to feel confident in who they hire and talk with me like they would anyone else!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by sharing everything. Even if it is me going to get a coffee. I want my followers to feel like they really know me. It builds a connection for people. By doing this, I had many people book services with me. My best advice to someone starting a new business that is looking to grow on social media is to not hold back. Don’t worry about what people will say because they aren’t living your life. Likes don’t count. Your follower count doesn’t matter. You will often find that your biggest supporters are strangers.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I feel like I am lucky in the way I started my business. It wasn’t very expensive to get started in lash extensions. When I decided to grow in a different direction in the beauty business I ended up just paying as I went on. I never wanted to put myself in major debt over the unknown.
