We recently connected with Caroline Brun and have shared our conversation below.
Caroline, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
My art is to share my wine expertise.
I am super happy to do it through my abstract art that I call “La Dégustation visuelle (the visual tasting) which is not really abstract…My creations are my tasting notes in which I bring an extra touch of soul and depth.
I do share my expertise in a lot of different ways, as a native champagne grower, as global Champagne ambassador for wine professional & wine lovers in masterclasses . I am not yet a full time artist but I would love to and this cap on my head is growing as I become more confident about it and have commissions.
I have been very much laught at when I dared to show it.
I have created a perfect balance between my 2 worlds, the PR in Champagne and the sensitive side of my personality.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
How you got into your industry ?
I was born in a wine family in Aÿ, the historical grand cru village in Champagne .Champagne is my world, it runs in the blood, and I love sharing it. From playing hide and seek in my grand-father’s cellar as kid to being the welcoming smile to wine professionals for a premium brand. Educated in the wine grower school in Avize, I also studies WSET 2 to enlarge my culture and I am also a Certified Sake sommelier and finally passed my Wine journalism diploma in 2021. I am also an International wine tasting jury member.
What type of products/services/creative works you provide,?
I am an educator, host, storyteller and an artist. I curate private and genuine tours and also introduce Champagne diversity by doing comparative tasting sessions in my house as Global Champagne ambassador, in a classic way but also through art as but I also put wines on walls with my art : La dégustation visuelle.
What you think sets you apart from others?
The main difference as guide is that I am an artist. The main difference as an artist, is that I am also a champagne expert, acknowledged as such in champagne region.
As a self-taught synesthesia artist..It is through Art that explain my region , the terroir specificities, the grape varieties and the taste. My exhibitions are educative masterclasses.
As guide, my tours like no others. They are full of analogies, images and emotions.
What are you most proud of ?
I am a self-taught who has been rewarded in 2021 as best International artist by the MAVV, the WINE ARY MUSEUM of Portici, in Italy. But I am also proud and moved by the fact that cellar-masters appreciate understand and buy my art.
As host, I have even been quoted as one of the foremost wine guide in Champagne region in 2018 by Conde Nast Traveller.
How comes that idea came to me ?
People are afraid in front of a glass of wine, not in front of colors.
Seriously, a 1971 Champagne gave me so much emotions that I wanted to keep it in mind forever, so I painted it. Art is also my way to craft my wines as so far I can not do it in my own family, that is how came the idea of up cycling materials. I use the same materials as many winemakers do….My art has the same DNA as the wines I paint.
I am open to commission if you want to savor your favorite wines without moderation, you just have to send me a bottle.
Worldwide shipping
I can also do private zoom workshop or team building.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I dared to communicate on social media thanks to COVID. My main hospitality activity was completely ruined by the situation. I had to survive to raise my kids and tried to sell art that way. Which I did ! So I posted on Instagram Facebook and LinkedIn my very personal way to describe wines. It is thanks to Instagram that I connected with an Italian artist who advise me to enter the wine art contest I have been rewarded for….
I gained confidence and a professional art legacy.
What a buzz this has been here is Champagne where I was laughed at…
Thank you social media
My piece of advice…… DARE ! JUST BE YOU ! BE GENUINE !
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
None for the moment.
