We were lucky to catch up with Caroline Brodzinski recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Caroline thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I started my career in 1982 after graduating with my barber and cosmetology license. Starting as a barber and growing into using both licenses, I learned how the world of cosmetology worked. This inspired me to want to have my own salon and after four years of experience, with the help of a business partner, we started Shear Reflections Hair and Nail Design in 1986. We started to grow our team and create an amazing community of people who we are still serving today. I soon after became the sole owner and worked many long days and nights to create a business I was proud to call my own. Many years later and I am very pleased to have been able to create a space were conversation and creativity flow freely.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are a beauty salon that has been open for 30+ years in the Mentor area. Starting in a small salon atmosphere, we have grown into a larger scale woman-owned salon that continues to grow. Our team of hairstylists, nail technicians, and makeup artists work hard to appeal to all of our clients’ needs. We specialize in haircuts, colors, and so much more. Our team is passionate about continuing our education so we actively are learning new and different ways to perform services. We are proud to have 12 team members, seasoned and young, be part of our ever-evolving team. Our goal is to provide a judgment-free zone that allows our clients to leave feeling like a better version of themselves. Our family-oriented salon has let us create a welcoming atmosphere and lifelong connections.
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
The worst moment in my career was when I was told to shut the doors. When Covid hit, it was such a sureal moment when we were told to lock the door, we had no idea what the future held. The bills were still piling up and not knowing when or if my clients would come back. Shear Reflections was forced to shut down and we had to learn how to still provide high-quality service and a sanitary space while following the guidelines we were given. I was so proud of how willing my team was to follow every guideline to allow us to reopen our doors.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We have maintained a good reputation by always putting our clients first. Our team of hairstylists, nail technicians, and makeup artists work hard to appeal to all of our clients’ needs. We specialize in haircuts, colors, and so much more. Our team is passionate about continuing our education so we actively are learning new and different ways to perform services.
