We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carolina Yasukawa. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carolina below.
Alright, Carolina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
Both of my parents had great work ethic. They taught me the importance of hard work and how it pays off. My dad owned his own company and my mom was in education. My dad gave me the gift of gab and how to wow a client. He has such charisma that I would see everyone in the room laughing with him. My mom taught me about professionalism and how to treat a client. What to put up with and when to take a stand. These attributes helped me in multiple businesses and maintaining a loyal clientele
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My Name is Carolina Yasukawa the founder of CMY Creatives a bridal agency. I’ve been doing hair and makeup for 25 years. I worked in the salon and studio for many of those years. While working one day I stepped back to realize I found a lot of joy in weddings. I asked a few of my friends to join me in starting a bridal beauty business.
We found that the bridal business is lacking beautiful fresh faced beauty. Our artists know how to add or pull back in a way that feels luxury.
I am so proud of our artist and how well they have been developing through the years.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Maintaining high employee morale is tricky. You want things to benefit your employees as well as benefiting the business. I think a huge factor is honoring your employees and the hard work they put into making your business run smooth and successful. Rewarding great work ethic and loyalty. I never give my artists jobs I wouldn’t take myself. I always put myself in their position and never want to offend their worth.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
During my journey I have encountered a few obstacles. From former artists to bad investments. I genuinely believe in myself my craft and the talent of my artists. I think every artist struggles with imposter syndrome but it’s important to push through and remember all your accomplishments throughout your career until now. It’s about striving for greatness and finding your clientele and not settling for less than what you are worth.
