We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carolina Vergara. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carolina below.
Carolina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we talk about all of your success, let’s start with a story of failure. Can you open up about a time when you’ve failed?
Many people view failure as a crushing defeat, a roadblock that hinders progress towards their goals. However, I see failure as a valuable learning experience. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a mentor, and in the absence of one, failure becomes the greatest teacher. With age, I’ve come to appreciate failure more deeply, recognizing that it has made me stronger and better equipped to guide those who look up to me.
Throughout my life, I’ve encountered numerous failures—as a mother, a wife, a leader, and in my career. Each failure has left its unique mark, accompanied by its own story of pain and growth, but also stories of eventual success.
When a mother makes a mistake, the boundless love of her children teaches the most profound lesson of all: the lesson of forgiveness. As leaders, we all stumble, but it is our fearlessness in the face of failure that propels us forward. Indeed, failure is a prerequisite for success.
My most significant failure has been my failure to stand up for my beliefs, to fearlessly follow my heart, ideals, and morals. I disappointed myself by allowing someone in a position of power to take advantage of me and deprive me of what was rightfully mine. I failed to advocate for myself, paralyzed by fear and excitement for the future. I convinced myself that I was taking the high road, that I had done everything right, and that the universe would provide. While the universe has indeed been kind and rewarded me immensely, each day serves as a reminder to never give up, to fight for what is just, and to stand up for myself in an industry that demands resilience.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Carolina Vergara, I am from Colombia. I made my way to Atlanta back in 1998 and dived into the vibrant scene at Walton High School in Roswell, GA. Let me tell you, stepping into the U.S. at 15 was no walk in the park—I faced quite the challenge adapting to this new way of life. After high school, I decided to take a year to acclimate while working, and boy, did I hit the ground running! I found a solid job and quickly found my stride, meeting some truly remarkable individuals along the way. Some of these connections led me into the world of real estate, igniting a passion that still burns bright today.
I took my first steps in the mortgage industry at a young age, learning from some incredible mentors who I still collaborate with to this day. I discovered a deep love for helping others, tackling challenges head-on, and, above all, nurturing the growth of my peers. When the market took a nosedive, I found myself weaving in and out of the industry—balancing the demands of a new family while seeking stability. But a few years down the line, the industry beckoned me back, and I’ve been hooked ever since, relishing every day in this fast-paced world.
As a mortgage loan originator, I have the privilege of guiding clients toward homeownership, shedding light on the path to financial freedom through real estate. Along the way, I co-founded MPower with my best friend, building a tight-knit team of 25 employees who are more like family than colleagues. At MPower, we’re not just about helping clients achieve their homeownership dreams; we’re about creating a community, a family, where everyone’s success is intertwined. When you work with us, you’re not just a client—you’re part of the MPower family for life.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Referalls, not only from realtors but from friends. I have been lucky enough to create strong relationships with amazing people who trust my ethics.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Meeting Andrea Rivero was one of the best things that happened in my life. We were co-workers at a mortgage company, I was just getting back in the market and she was new to processing, at that time we learned that both of our work ethics were similar. We were work friends before becoming sisters. I am a dreamer and a visionary and Andrea is my foot on the ground, the one who helps me excel and achieve my goals. We have been through good and bad times together and as time passes I am glad that she has been by my side.
Not everyone is lucky enough to find a partner that supports you and that understands that in this industry we adapt almost every day. We are creating a life as sisters, partners, and friends together.
