Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carolina Sardi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Carolina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
My first elementary school teacher told my mom to send me to art school. I was drawing all the time. If we have to illustrate a subject, I will do pages and pages of drawings. I started art school when I was 10 years old. I believe that I was able to finish school because I was in art school.
When I had to decide on a career, I knew that making art was what make me happier. I had no other option than to pursue what will make me happy, and that was art.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I work mainly in sculpture and I use metal as my medium. Sculpture was a challenging subject for me when I was at school so I decided to dive into it. Steel is an industrial material that allows you to work in different projects if you know how to use it. I create free standing sculptures, wall installations, suspended pieces and architectural applications. I am most know by my large wall sculptures composed by individual elements cut out from steel. My work has an organic sensibility that reflects on the basic interactions of life. I use positive and negative spaces as a way to search a balance between opposites. It comes natural to me to work with a particular space in mind. I have been working on site-specific projects for more than 20 years. Since I am familiar with industrial processes and fabrication, I can design, fabricate and install artworks that are suitable for private, public and corporate spaces.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Life as an artist is a very rewarding one. I am happier when I’m working in the studio.
Having an artwork completed and installed in a particular site is also very satisfying.
Being able to live from what you makes you happier is a blessing.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Working with steel is not easy. Is a very physical job and it can be dangerous too. I wanted to work with metal when I was at art school, but the teachers will do the work for you. My dad then gave me a welding machine and told me to learn how to weld. I pretty much learned by myself , asking people that knew the craft, reading and practicing. I believe that when you are convinced about what you want to do, you’ll find the way to do it.
