We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carolina Lopez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carolina below.
Carolina , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I can say I’m a happy artist and, even more importantly, a happy human being! With time, I have found that happiness is within the act of being present, and is often a choice of taking the positive perspective in whatever we are living at the moment.
An artist’s life is not easy, but what profession is? Everything comes with a price, and in our case it is uncertainty.
Like many artists, I have questioned myself and wondered if I’m on the right path. Life seems more stable with a regular job, but also less exciting and in many cases, unhappy.
I do believe life is worth it when you do what you love and are passionate about, when you learn to enjoy the ride and not just the destination.
To be an artist, you need patience and strength to become immune to all the “No’s” you will receive, and to have the bravery to keep seeking the “yes” that might change your life and career. You need to have the discipline to always be ready, and the connection with yourself to keep believing and trusting in what only you can do. Because a good artist is a creator, never a follower!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Ever since I was a little girl I always felt connected with acting, singing, writing and tools that let me discover and express myself freely. Driven by my curiosity of human psychology and behaviors, I started to learn different accents respectfully and I learned different acting techniques, always with heart, discipline and respect. Moved not only by this passion but also out of necessity to help with the financial struggle of my parents, I left my hometown of Medellin for the capital, Bogota, to begin the big adventure of following my dreams while trusting my heart.
Of course it wasn’t easy, but I was not going to take “No” for an answer!
One year after my big move to Bogota, I was doing my first national TV project and I continued growing my career. Now, after 25+ productions and 5 Colombian national TV and film nominations, I am so thankful for the journey thus far. I have been fortunate to reach different audiences around the globe as a result of the success of many of those productions.
I left Bogota in late 2018 and moved to Toronto to continue growing my career, acting in English-language films, exploring my passion for singing/songwriting and earning 3 nominations and one win for Best Music Video at the CANIFFF (Canadian International Fashion Film Festival) Awards.
Now Based in Los Angeles, I’m ready for bigger challenges and I’m excited about the next stage of my acting career. Trusting the universe and my preparation, I know the best is yet to come!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We are living in a time where social media and the audience’s connection is essential to every business. This fact can be very overwhelming, not just for artists but also for every human being.
Social media has been designed to display your content while trying to get lucky with an enigmatic algorithm, and also to keep you there for longer periods. Knowing this, there are some questions that we need to ask ourselves, such as:
How do I expose my brand and how much time do I need to spend on the platform?
What type of content should I expose to increase my followers?
How do I adapt to the new algorithm that is not displaying my content?
It seems like social media tracks your behaviors and hides likes and comments, causing stress for creators, motivating us to invest more time in the platform. Imagine this as a game, where the algorithm will always win but at the end of the day it is how it is, and the “true likes” might appear.
So instead of wasting time on what we can’t control, I decided to give priority to the most important thing I have – my brand! Trust that followers will come as a consequence of your work and use the platform as a tool. So keep creating!
Your brand is the most valuable thing you have, and you should never expose content that does not represent you. Focus your content on your target audience who appreciates you and your work; others will come and go.
Life is a balance, and I always try to remind myself that as an artist, I am a creator and not a follower. This keeps me on track, and reminds me to keep being honest with myself and my followers, who at the end of the day followed me because of who I am.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Many times in my personal and career journey, I have had to trust my gut and follow my own truth. Each one of those experiences contributed to who I am today, but leaving my country changed my entire life and perspective forever.
I left Colombia just over 5 years ago, after having achieved success in my career, yet still feeling empty in my personal life. I needed a change that allowed me to explore the world from inside out, while seeing new cultures, experiencing different perspectives of life and continuing to grow my career.
Giving away and selling everything I had, I packed my life in two bags and I took with me the most wonderful companion, my cat Nieve. Together we were ready for a new life in Toronto, Canada.
Many called me crazy, and even though I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, I also knew that I could build a new life and keep growing my career wherever I wanted. I just needed to learn English first (LOL).
My life changed completely. Over there, I wasn’t famous, which allowed me to take the time for myself that I couldn’t do previously, and be focused on English and personal growth.
I got lost many times, barely understanding the directions from friends telling me how to return home. I faced extreme weather that I never experienced before. I felt lonely and sick at times. I missed my life and my mom, but I also saw every type of culture, I tasted delicious new cuisines, I enjoyed the most beautiful and sublime lakes, and with determination and resilience, little by little, I got closer to my dream. I learned English, I did some films, I wrote and produced my own music, I found my love and Nieve is still with us.
I lived in Toronto for almost 4 years before moving to Miami and now I’m based in LA. And believe me, the adventure is just starting!
We are all a work in progress, but what defines us is the effort and love we put into everything we do, because no matter how cloudy the sky looks, It’s still a sky.
Please let me know if there is anything else you need from me.
Have a wonderful rest of the week.
