We recently connected with Carolina King and have shared our conversation below.
Carolina , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on has been Arts for Smiles. The idea of an organization to help children and others came to me while I was president of the Wellington Art Society from 2018-2020 and in the midst of the Covid 19 crisis.
On March of 2019 I was able to organize an outreach program and bring art to children at the hospital. Our first visit was April 4, 2019 and my life was forever changed.
As we watched the children forget how they felt physically for just a few minutes and color birdhouses and canvases, I knew I had to make this a full time effort.
Carolina , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a mosaic artist and a daughter of a stained glass artist so art has always been part of my life. And I know first hand how important and healing art is.
When our world change with the Covid 19 crisis, we extended our program and started distributing care packages to local children in need as of April 2022 we have distributed almost 1000 care packages, in every package the children are provided not only with essential items they are also provided art supplies and projects.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One of Arts for Smiles goals is to provide backpacks full of school supplies to as many children as possible.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Besides making children smile, our goal is to make everyone aware that art is one of the most beautiful forms of therapy.
