We recently connected with Carolina Conejo and have shared our conversation below.
Carolina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Being a business owner is rewarding but also challenging. I run my own personal training business and I need to have a balance of both being a trainer and business owner. I recently had a baby so I did have the thought of going back to a regular paying job. Why you may ask? Well first things first maternity leave. As a business owner I don’t get paid to be on maternity leave. The only positive about this is that I get to decide when I go back. to work. I’ll get to be with my baby longer but I just won’t have much income coming in. When my baby was born back in May of this year I dedicated all my time to him. I’m a first time mom so everything is new to me. I had an unplanned c section so this was a lot to me. At this time, I stopped marketing on my social media. I stopped posting content. I was not worried about posting content at the time since my priority was my baby. We all know in this day in age that posting content is is important for a business. At 2.5 months postpartum I was ready to get back to work but I encountered some difficulties. With my new schedule, I lost some clients who weren’t able to train. This with a combination of my current clients getting injured and going on vacation made it hard for me to get back to work. I definitely started to stress out but after a talk I had with a mentor, I knew it was time to come back stronger. I choose this life for a reason and now wasn’t the time to quit. This time for my business I am targeting a different audience since this was my current journey. That is postpartum. As a newly postpartum mom I have the ability to help other moms out there. It’s just a matter of fact to get back on my feet with social media. I love my job and despite me struggling to get back to work after having my baby, I was dedicated to not quit,
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Carolina Conejo and I own Conejo Fitness. I started my business in 2022. I’ve always been passionate about fitness since I was a teenager. I worked for different personal training companies before my business, I didn’t agree on the pay and the companies rules. This was the reason why I started Conejo Fitness. I offer in person training with private and semi private sessions at Self Made Training Facility. The gym is a 14,000 square foot state of an art private gym. I work with individuals wanting to lose weight and build muscle. Recently, I have been targeting pregnant and postpartum women, I truly believe that it doesn’t matter where you’re at in life, working on your fitness is important. Now as a mom, it is very vital that fitness is apart of my life. As this should be the same with every mother out there. We are always taking care of others, we cannot forget to take care of ourselves. The only way we are able to take care of our loved ones is if we’re healthy.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Social media is very big in this day in age. When I first started my business, I started to promote on Instagram. Eventually I started to post my work on Instagram once I did get clients. It helps when my followers would see my post. Not only that but when I would tag my clients and they would post the training session on their story. Aside from social media, word of mouth has been huge too. Current clients would tell their friends and family about my service and this is how my business grew even more.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe being myself helped my reputation within my market. I know people on social media are ALWAYS watching. They might not be engaging with your social media but they watch your stories. I simply just display myself and my passions. I truly love what I do so everything comes natural. I’m no influencer or have a huge following on social media. So just being myself helps people relate to something they might be going through,
