We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carolina Carver a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Carolina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
CBDelicacy was first started back in 2020 over a love for pets by
Carolina Carver & Cassady Rotthoff.
Cassady studied Culinary Arts at Johnson and Wales. Carolina is
the owner of the well known pet service, Tails N’ Trails.
They brought their extensive knowledge from their perspective
backgrounds together, to find a healthy alternative to modern
medicine to manage their pets’ ailments.
Both Carolina & Cassady had pets that suffered from ailments
that could best be managed through CBD. Carolina’s hound,
Annie, was recovering from a traumatic injury that left her with
a multitude of mobility issues. And Cassady’s beagle, Billie,
suffered from severe anxiety as a rescue from Kentucky.
With a passion for pet care and holistic resources, they’ve put
together a CBD product line that will provide a myriad of
benefits for your pets.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
CBDelicacy, offers small-batch handmade full spectrum CBD products for pets made with organic & locally sourced CBD from Wisconsin based CBD farm, DNA Hemp.
We pride ourselves on our handmade small batch products that are human grade, and made from all natural, organic ingredients. We make all our products by hand out of our kitchen. Our product line consists of an array of CBD pet treats, artisanal naturally flavored peanut butters, CBD tinctures, and skin products.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
We still manufacture all our products by hand in our kitchen! We got our inspiration from living on a cannabis farm together in Mendocino County during Covid. It was such a one in a life time experience. With our only source of water being from the creek that ran down the hill from our house, and our connection to the outside world coming from a very weak wifi router that was powered from the generator we fueled with gas, we lived completely off the grid. During this time, I (Carolina), with the help of Cassady back in Rhode Island, was running my pet service business, Tails N’ Trails, remotely throughout Covid. Cassady handled all the day to day of Tails N’ Trails in Rhode Island (back when we only had one location), but still managed to come out to Spyrock (the mountain our farm was located on) regularly for visits. It was on one of these visits that we decided we’d start a CBD pet product line for all our Tails N’ Trails clients. With my plug in for supreme full spectrum CBD and a starting client base, and Cassady’s culinary experience, CBDelicacy was born.

How’d you meet your business partner?
Cassady and I met at our favorite pizza place, Antonios, in Pawtucket, RI. Cassady was the manager and bartender, and I was a regular who came in for a beer and a slice after my walks everyday. One day I was telling Cassady about how I had just gotten lost in the woods of New Hampshire the previous weekend for 6 hours in negative temperates and 2 feet of snow. I had to be carried out by search and rescue and was brought to the nearest hospital to be treated for hypothermia. Cassady thought I was insane for my general mindset that I would be okay during the whole experience, in addition to the fact that hours after I was released from the hospital I went back into the same woods in search of my two hounds who had gotten me lost in the woods in the first place. But I think Cassady found a sense of excitement and passion for the whole story. From there we became best friends and business partners as CBDelicacy evolved. It’s crazy to think that one interaction can become a life long friendship and ignite the beginning of a successful business.
