We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carol Ruffin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carol below.
Carol, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
One of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me was when I received a grant from United Way. That support came at a pivotal time and allowed me to further develop my Blossoms Floral Academy class. What started as a dream has grown into a thriving program that empowers and educates young minds through the art of floral design. Now in our third year, the academy continues to flourish, impacting not only my life but the lives of so many students. That single act of generosity helped plant seeds that are still blooming today.

Carol, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
More than 40 years ago, what began as a humble home-based floral business quickly blossomed into something extraordinary. With passion, creativity, and dedication at its heart, Blossoms Florist Inc. was founded to bring beauty into everyday moments and unforgettable celebrations.
In 1990, we took a significant step forward and opened our first brick-and-mortar location—an exciting milestone that allowed us to serve even more customers with fresh, elegant floral designs. Over the decades, our work has been recognized with numerous awards for excellence in floral design, and we are honored to be recipients of the prestigious Hall of Fame Award for Business in Cincinnati.
Today, Blossoms Florist Inc. is proud to be a preferred vendor for several Fortune 500 companies, a testament to the trust and quality we’ve built through years of consistent service and creativity.
But our mission doesn’t stop at flowers—we believe in sowing seeds of beauty throughout our community. That’s why we launched the Budding Blossoms Floral Academy, a program that empowers the next generation through floral design. Serving youth and community members alike, our academy is helping beautify our neighborhoods—one student at a time.
From our first bouquet to our latest class, our journey continues .
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The Most Rewarding Part of the Journey
After more than four decades in the floral industry, the most rewarding part of this journey isn’t just the flowers—it’s the joy, emotion, and connection they create.
Whether it’s watching a bride light up at her bouquet, helping a grieving family find comfort in blooms, or seeing a student in our floral academy discover their own creative spark—those moments remind me why I do this.
I love everything about being a creative. From dreaming up designs to bringing someone’s vision to life, flowers allow me to tell stories without words. No two arrangements are the same, and that’s the magic. Each stem, each petal, is part of a greater expression—one that touches people’s lives.
The impact of what we do goes far beyond the shop. We get to be part of people’s most meaningful life moments. That is the true reward.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Creatives are the heartbeat of culture—designing, inspiring, and shaping the world around us through art, music, design, writing, and yes, even flowers. But creativity needs more than admiration to thrive—it needs support.
Here are a few meaningful ways society can uplift and empower creatives:
Invest in Their Work
Shop local. Hire artists. Choose handcrafted over mass-produced. Every dollar spent with a creative supports not only their business but their passion and purpose.
Offer Platforms, Not Just Praise
Creatives need space to be seen and heard. From community markets and exhibitions to social media shout-outs and local press coverage—visibility matters.
Value Art as Essential, Not Extra
Creative work is not just decoration—it’s healing, expressive, and transformative. Supporting policies, grants, and education that invest in the arts keeps creativity alive for future generations.
Encourage Creative Education
Programs like our Budding Blossoms Floral Academy show what’s possible when youth are given the tools to express themselves. Supporting these programs means investing in the future of innovation and beauty.
Celebrate the Process, Not Just the Product
Behind every beautiful arrangement, painting, or performance is time, effort, and heart. Respecting the process affirms the value of the creative journey.
When we support creatives, we’re not just backing individuals—we’re nurturing the spirit of innovation, culture, and community. Let’s continue to champion creativity in all its forms.
