Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caro Tejada. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Caro, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
The first dollar I earned from my creative work as a visual artist was from an interactive art installation commissioned by the Dan Marino Foundation. It was displayed for mayor Carlos Giménez and commissioner Pepe Díaz at a very special function. It made me feel so proud because up until then; I had been working tirelessly, putting in very long hours for many years, and covering for all materials and expenses to bring my art project to where it is at today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
My name is Caro Tejada. I am a former classical ballerina and tour dancer for Ricky Martin and Julio Iglesias. Currently residing in Miami as a visual + recording artist. My artistic career started at the age of 5, which is when I started dancing Ballet, and continued dancing for 15 years, shoutout to my Maestra, Norma García. My transition to recording music occurred in the year 2009 in New York City, where I have been able to keep recording and producing my songs ever since, shoutout to Cesar Tejeda! I have written and recorded several tracks in different genres, including EDM, Bachata, Rock and Swing. I am excited to release new music. Stay Tuned!
When I moved to Miami, I started painting, and eventually founded: Hope the Blue Robot. A project dedicated to introducing mental health education in the community through the arts. This project evolved from a painting I did in 2011. Today, Hope the Blue Robot is an award winning art program that has been recognized by the Jorge M. Pérez Foundation for its contribution to Miami’s vitality and cultural life.

Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, my mission is to continue creating solid works that stay relevant as my projects continue to evolve. My Hope the Blue Robot’s art program’s goal is to introduce mental health education in the school system. My c a r o lifestyle brand’s goal is to help fund my art program. My paintings’ goal is to help start conversations about the human condition, as it relates to Hope and mental health. My designs’ goal is to get you compliments, and my music’s goal is to celebrate love and emotion.
I am an artist and my overall goal is to help influence society by translating and sharing my human experience across space and time.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Art is a vehicle for social change. To be able to experience freedom in its purest form, and then turn it into power to change the world, is the absolute most rewarding aspect of being a creative.
