Carneilus, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I always wanted my own business since a kid but I didn’t exactly know I wanted my own clothing brand, I just loved clothes and shoes and wanted a store like City Gear or Jimmy Jazz. As I got older I discovered I wanted my own clothing brand, the idea came about as I was sitting on a bucket at work in 35 degree weather freezing, and I was thinking this is not something I want to do for the rest of my life so, I began brainstorming, and came up with the name Federal Fresh! Federal came from me saying I’m going FED today, meaning getting real fresh, and fresh came from folks always calling me fresh from knowing how to dress and I put together Federal Fresh. Also you know when the FEDs come you done really did something and it don’t get no higher than the feds, so I want people to feel like ain’t nobody messing with them when they got my brand on!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Well my name CJ, I got in the clothing brand /streetwear industry in February and did my first drop in March and just been consistent ever since. I’m fairly new to the industry so I’m trying to adapt and learn every thing I need to learn as soon as possible even doe it’s a lot to learn. But I can say I don’t think anybody this new have been more consistent than me with drops/new collections. I make clothes for the people who maybe dealing with something and putting on clothes or getting fly/fresh helps them feel better about themselves. That’s why one of my slogans is “Getting Fly Is Therapeutic” because dressing up can fix a bad day! Even doe I haven’t been in the clothing game long, I have reached good amount of following and audience for my brand at a fast pace which I’m hoping to keep growing rapidly! I think my quality, my designs/uniqueness and my consistency sets me apart from most brands, I’m really not a follower, Im trendsetter so I try to keep it that way.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I had already been popular on social media, so that somewhat helped me build an audience, but the thing that did the most was my wearing my brand consistently and posting in it. Most people have clothing brands and barely wear theirs own clothes! Ever since I started my brand I haven’t wore nothing but my brand literally. I wear my brand every single day no matter if it’s to the gym or to the store or going out, I will have something that say Federal Fresh on. Being a brand owner you have to be your own walking build board! I’m trying to gain new customers every day. If you don’t wear your brand how is you going to get other people to?

Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
I have missed a lot of jobs opportunities for my business! I just feel like jobs will always be there but your dreams won’t be so why not chase them and take that risk!
