We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carmen Uribe . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carmen below.
Carmen , appreciate you joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My career began a little bit backwards. I got married at the age of 18 had all 3 of our children (2 boys and one girl) by the age of 24 . It was a very fun time in my life but I always knew that in my heart I really wanted to pursue a career in the landscape field. My father was a Gardner all his life he came from Mexico in 1969. Then I met the love of my life at a plant nursery. When we married he was running his own landscape business and while I was a stay at home mom I always was eager to help him with his billing and calls. In 2006 we incorporated the landscape business. We became A Greener Tomorrow Landscaping Inc I completed school and became a professional landscape designer . My very first job came in from a call on an ad we were running on a postcard service . I was stuttering and booked my first in person meeting!! I was so nervous because I it was my first ever gig! I will never forget that client her name was Ada Chan and she gave me my first real world opportunity . Upon booking the design service I remember that I drew it all by hand because I had no software or computer because it was early in my career. I conserve the plan in my office to this very day. The execution of the project was the easy part as my husband has always been my contractor . He always guided me through each project and still does to this very day. That first job was almost 13 years ago and when I remember it I get the same smile as the day I was given that first opportunity.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As many , many people have read in past articles and magazines my career began way back from the time I was a child. Then furthering it to 1998 when I married my husband whom was a landscaper. Then 2006 my husband and I created A Greener Tomorrow Inc since then we have been dedicated and determined to make our landscape company a community in the West side of Los Angeles . I have been honored to work with very high profile clients, schools, churches and even our next door neighbors. Our mission is to beautify the city and create environmentally conscious landscapes one home or business at a time.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I think the best strategy for growing our clientele is being honest and producing work with high standards of workmanship. Most our clients come in through referrals and word of mouth. We do not cut co nets and only produce quality work that is not only beautiful but functional and done right .
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of our clients is being area specific . We have solely been dedicated to win over the Westside particularly Culver City , Venice , Westchester, and Playa Vista . We have been nominated as best of Culver City for 5 years in a row.
