We recently connected with Carmen Grayson and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Carmen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

The most meaningful projects that I have worked on are during the pandemic setting up shelter-in-place sites for the homeless and the underserved populations in San Francisco. The most recent project event that I participated in was the Jackie Robinson Celebrity Game honorary game held at UCLA on July 17, 2022, powered by Bumpbox and Barbara Sanchez of Elegant PR. Jackie Robinson’s impact on society is remarkable and immeasurable. The Jackie Robinson celebrity game was put together to honor his legacy and most importantly the day of remembrance for the man who broke the sport’s modern color barrier on April 15, 1947. Many celebrities came out to participate during the celebrity game Lil Wayne, Terrell Owens, Mario, Chase Claypool, Cam Jordan, Ricky Williams, Dashon Goldson, Kj Osborn, and many more. This game was honoring 75 years of breaking barriers. as a woman of color, it is important to me that we continue to break down the walls of racism. Jackie Robinson, known for breaking the color line in baseball and his impressive record on the field, was also one of the first civil rights fighters.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?

Carmen Grayson may be a new Publicist in the industry, but she is not new to the industry. Carmen is a Bay Area native born in San Francisco. She always had an interest in the Entertainment industry from a young age. She was in school plays, landing lead roles. She eventually ended up going to Long Beach State University obtaining a BA in Communications. After returning to the Bay Area Carmen was known as Msbayarea411 doing Bay Area club reports with DJ Backside on 106.1 KMEL. She was also an on-air personality for 94.1 WHAP Radio Where the Hits are Played interviewing artists and playing their new breakthrough hits on the show Friday nights. Carmen has also been a host on several Bay Area Podcasts

You also may have recognized Carmen as being featured on WeTv’s reality show. She was on 2 episodes in 2016. Partnering up with WETv yet again opened more doors and opportunities in the Hollywood Scene.

Carmen has spearheaded promotions for many of the hottest Hip-Hop, R&B parties working with everyone from Dj Mind Motion, Pirate Djs, Core Dj’s BMB Events, Personal Touch Entertainment, Kid Capri, Dj Clue, DJ Kay Slay, Kurupt, and many more. She is still very much involved with Hosting Celebrity events and parties but now has moved on to the concert sector and is working with Bobby Dee Presents and Uncle Snoop’s Army.

While working behind the scenes at the Bobby Dee Presents Shows she was influenced to pursue her dream into the PR world. She began being mentored by one of LA’s well-known Publicists Barbara Sanchez, CEO of Elegant PR. Barbara quickly recognized her dedication, poise, hustle, and drive to embark on her new role in the PR world, where she brought her on to her firm as a junior publicist and is now working closely with Carmen on conquering her dreams

Carmen is a Brand and Marketing Strategist who partners with CEOs, executives, artists, Social Media Influencers, and solopreneurs to grow their personal and professional brands, human-to-human. Under Barbara Sanchez PR Firm, Carmen is working with well-known celebrities; her forte is developing Press Kit and Media materials (both print and electronic – known as EPK’s, Electronic Press Kit well-known for their artistic managers (music/TV/Film).

She is also an activist when it comes to domestic violence. She is very much involved in taking a stand educating victims and providing support. She is also a huge advocate for people with Lipedema. Lipedema is just starting to be recognized as a serious medical condition.

We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.

I had known Barbara Sanchez one of Hollywood’s known Publicists for about 4 years. We had crossed paths at many Hollywood events. While working behind the scenes at the Bobby Dee Presents Shows she was influenced to pursue her dream in the PR world. She began to mentor me. She saw a spark and drive in me and believed I would be a great PR/publicist in the entertainment world. Barbara quickly recognized my dedication, poise, hustle, and drive to embark on my new role in the PR world, she brought me on to her firm as a publicist and we are captivating Hollywood by night.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

I have learned that I must remain calm cool collected at all times. At a drop of a hat, things can massively change, where one must change gears and stop on a project and focus on something else. A perfect example of this was when the world was faced with the Covid Pandemic. We watched the whole world shut down. I have learned it makes life much more enjoyable to go with the flow and expect the unexpected. I learned that one must re-evaluate your priorities and adjust your schedule accordingly. I must plan and hold myself accountable so that my deadlines are executed. It is imperative that effective time management and flexibility are the keys to successfully handling sudden changes. Whatever you don’t wait last minute to create an EPK, media list, or pitch letter.
