We recently connected with Carmen Govea and have shared our conversation below.
Carmen , appreciate you joining us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
The best way I’ve ever shown appreciation to a customer is by genuinely contributing to their success—whether in their business or personal life. At the end of the day, we are all human, facing struggles and challenges, regardless of our roles as business owners, professionals, or individuals trying to improve our lives. I’ve always believed that true success is not just about transactions, but about the relationships and trust we build along the way.
Many times, I’ve shared ideas that ended up making a significant impact, whether by helping someone grow their business, refine their brand, or simply gain the confidence to take the next step forward. Seeing how a simple suggestion or piece of advice can transform someone’s outlook or lead to tangible success is incredibly fulfilling. Other times, I’ve provided free publicity to businesses that needed a boost but didn’t have the resources for marketing. I’ve used my platform to showcase their work, knowing that even a small act of support can mean the difference between struggling and thriving.
But appreciation isn’t just about giving resources or opportunities—it’s also about being present. There have been countless moments when what someone really needed wasn’t business advice or publicity, but simply someone to listen, to acknowledge their efforts, and to remind them that they are not alone in their journey. I’ve had conversations where all I did was lend an ear, and later, those individuals told me how much it meant to be seen, heard, and valued.
For me, showing appreciation goes beyond a “thank you” or a business deal. It’s about building relationships, uplifting others, and making a real difference in someone’s life. When I see the positive impact of those actions—whether it’s a business thriving, a person regaining confidence, or a dream becoming reality—that’s when I know I’ve truly shown my appreciation in the best way possible.
Carmen , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
La Voz Latina is more than just a media platform; it is a movement dedicated to empowering, informing, and uplifting the community. My journey into this industry began with a strong desire to create opportunities for those whose voices often go unheard. I saw a need for a space where entrepreneurs, professionals, and community leaders could share their stories, access resources, and connect with one another. That’s how La Voz Latina was born—out of the vision to not only report on the community but to actively contribute to its growth and success.
We provide a variety of services, including business promotion, event organization, networking opportunities, and community support initiatives. Whether it’s highlighting a small business, hosting empowerment events, or sharing vital information, our goal is to be a bridge between opportunity and the people who need it most. One of the biggest challenges for many businesses and individuals is visibility—hardworking people often struggle to get the recognition they deserve. We help solve that problem by giving them a platform to showcase their work, connect with potential customers, and access valuable resources.
What sets us apart is our commitment to making a real impact. We don’t just share stories; we create them by fostering connections and providing tangible support. Whether it’s offering free promotions to struggling businesses, connecting people to job opportunities, or simply being a listening ear for those in need, we always prioritize community over profit. What makes me most proud is seeing the direct impact of our work—when a business grows because of our promotion, when someone finds inspiration through our events, or when we help connect someone to a life-changing opportunity.
More than anything, I want people to know that La Voz Latina is here for them. This is a platform built on passion, purpose, and the belief that when one of us succeeds, we all succeed. Our community is filled with talent, resilience, and potential, and my mission is to continue amplifying voices, celebrating diversity, and creating opportunities for growth.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building an audience on social media has been a journey of authenticity, consistency, and genuine connection. From the very beginning, I knew that the key to success was to be real in every post and interaction. I focused on providing valuable information that mattered to the community whether it was promoting local businesses, sharing empowering stories, or offering helpful resources. It’s essential to stay neutral on sensitive issues and focus on uplifting the conversation rather than fueling division. People gravitate toward content that inspires and adds value, not content that destroys or polarizes. By staying consistent with my message and maintaining a regular presence, I built trust with my audience, and that trust became the foundation of our growing community.
For those just starting out, my advice would be to stay true to yourself, be patient, and always focus on offering something meaningful to your followers. Social media is not just about the numbers; it’s about building real connections and providing content that adds value to people’s lives. Stay committed to being a positive force, and never underestimate the power of consistency. Over time, the right audience will find you, and they’ll stick around because they see that you genuinely care about what you’re sharing.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There was a time in my journey when my health took a serious toll on me, both physically and mentally. As a one-person business, I was handling everything I convinced myself that taking breaks wasn’t an option, that if I stopped, everything I had worked for would fall apart. But over time, the stress, exhaustion, and lack of balance caught up with me. My body was sending clear signals that I couldn’t ignore any longer.
It was a tough but necessary realization—I couldn’t pour from an empty cup. I had to take control of my health if I wanted to keep doing what I love. I started setting boundaries, making time for rest, and shifting my mindset from just working harder to working smarter. I focused on my physical and mental well-being, making small but powerful changes like improving my nutrition, incorporating movement into my day, and prioritizing mindfulness. More importantly, I learned to give myself grace, understanding that success isn’t about nonstop hustle but about sustainability.
That shift made all the difference. I became more productive, more creative, and more present in my work. It taught me that resilience isn’t about pushing yourself to the limit—it’s about knowing when to recharge so you can keep moving forward. Now, I encourage others, especially fellow entrepreneurs, to prioritize their well-being, because when you take care of yourself, you can take care of everything else so much better.
