Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carmen Einfinger. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Carmen, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I was born in England but raised in Brazil, where my parents’ separation occurred when I was just four years old. Sadly, I never had the chance to see my father again. At 19, I made my way back to England, and at 24, I embarked on a new chapter in Canada, specifically in Toronto. It was during my time there that I began to explore Primal Therapy, while also urging my mother to share details about my father.
To my surprise, I discovered that my father was an artist, and this revelation sparked a transformative journey within me. Through Primal Therapy, I started to break down barriers and unlock my creativity. It was then that I knew deep in my heart that being an artist was my calling, and the passion for this craft would remain an enduring flame throughout my life.
Carmen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
MY artwork graces private collections, galleries, and museums worldwide. My body of work has expanded to include public art installations and interventions in Europe, Asia, the South Pacific, and New York City. Notably, I received first prize in the International Competition of the Outdoor Gallery of the City of Gdansk, Poland, and I have been awarded prestigious artist residencies and fellowships.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
During my time at the University of Buffalo, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts, I was deeply passionate about my art, yet I struggled to find my own artistic voice. Despite my persistence, I felt something was missing. After graduation, I made a bold decision to escape to the tranquil Island of Crete, bringing all my art materials with me. There I made a conscious effort to let go of everything I had learned in college and embark on a fresh start. In Crete, I immersed myself in the charm of the villages, dedicating my time to painting people without any self-imposed expectations or pressures. For four months, I delved into this liberating process, allowing my creativity to flow freely.
One particular day, as I sat on a terrace near a graceful Willow Tree, I spontaneously began sketching chairs, tables, and the tree itself. In that moment, a profound realization washed over me – a strong inner pull guided my hand with unparalleled harmony, and I knew I had finally found my authentic voice. It was an epiphany that sparked a fierce determination within me.
From that day forward, I knew I had discovered a voice so compelling that nothing and no one could deter me from pursuing it. My journey had just begun, and it would define the rest of my life. This newfound voice would serve as the foundation of my work, shaping my artistic development for years to come.
