We were lucky to catch up with Carmen Capiro recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Carmen, thanks for joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I started when I felt the time was right. I was raising my daughters and i have a daughter with special needs that has always needed me. By the time my youngest daughter had started college that’s when I decided I wanted to make a business for myself doing something I was truly passionate about and that I could also have my daughter do it with me. It was a scary step for me being that I am not a spring chicken I was already in my 40’s. I feel like this is the perfect time because I can be truly invest my time and dedication to making my business thrive.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The House of Tulips is my floral design business. We do flowers for all occasions. We do personal flowers from birthdays, to funerals and including dinner party’s. We also do events, wedding florals, party’s , and charity events. One of the events I am most proud of is a charity we did Pace School for Girls. When I was presented with this opportunity to do all the floral designs. I had to say yes, not only because I’m a girl mom but because it’s such an amazing charity.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My best source for new clients has been word of mouth. At this moment 99% of my business comes from some one who has referred me to some one they know and I feel that is the BEST! I am so grateful to all those people who have loved my work and believed in me.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Floral arrangements have always been a part of my like. I have always been the person my friends and family came to when they where in need of flowers. I use to make them for my family’s baby showers., Christmas dinners, birthday party’s . One day I decided it was time for me to go to Miami Dade Collage and do there floral program. With the help and encouragement of my instructor I decided it was time to turn my hobby into business.
