We recently connected with Carmelle Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Carmelle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
The best thing that I have done to show a customer that I appreciate them is giving them personalized thank-you notes expressing my gratitude for their business. I would personalize it by mentions specific details about the customer or their purchase. I would also do special promotions and gifts. I love to surprise my customers with unexpected promotion or small gifts on special occasions. This could be a discount code, a freebie, or even a personalized gift that aligns with their interest.
Prompt and attentive customer service that will ensure the needs of the clients. I aim to provide quick and helpful assistance whenever they have questions or issues.
Also, social media shout-outs are awesome. It gives your customers a public display or appreciation by featuring them on your social media platforms. I would also share positive feedback, testimonials, or highlights of their hair success goals

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I feel like what sets me apart from others is I specialize in all textures of hair. I was raised in a bi-racial family in Missouri. And it was always difficult for my mom to find someone to teach her how to take care of her bi-racial daughters hair. There were times when I would do my younger sister hair, including my own hair. We both hair completely different textures of hair. So I made sure that I knew a lot about all textures of hair when it came to color, chemical straightener, hair extensions techniques, haircuts, hairstyling tools, and most of all hair products. I did not want to be that hairstylist that was scared of certain textures of hair. I wanted to be able to serve the public. And as we all know that the public is full of all kinds of lengths and different texture of hair.
I took a lot of master classes on hair color, toning and color corrections. I wanted to know exactly how to formulate color to complement their skin tones and eye color. But I wanted to do it without damaging their hair. As we all know that different formulation is based on the density, porosity and elasticity of your hair.
I am most proud of myself that I did not allow myself to get stuck in a box. When you look at my portfolio, you see all nationalities with all type of hair textures. I want any and everyone to feel compfortable when they enter my salon studio.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
When it comes to growing clientele, I believe the best way to offer excellent customer service all the time. Build a strong online presence. In today digital age, having a strong online presence is crucial. Create a professional website and maintain active social media profiles to showcase your work, interact with potential clients, and build a community. I have also attended community events. I feel like when you engage with your local community is a great way to increase visibility. Participate in festivals, trade shows, or local events where you can showcase your skill and connect with potential clients.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is that I have to always remember that consistency, authenticity, and quality are key to building a loyal clientele. Focus on providing top-notch services and creating a positive experience, and your salon will likely gain a strong reputation and attract new clients over time.
