We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carman Pait . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carman below.
Carman, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am super excited to be a business owner. When sales are down or slow I wonder it would be like to receive a steady paycheck. However, my passion for what I do is what truly drives my revenue. I get a sense of fulfillment with each event and celebration. I leave the stability up to my husband and I continue to grind it out, week after week. My business also continue to grow. It’s very rare for me to have a slow week. My business is truly bless if I must say so myself.
Carman, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I always loved hosting parties and serving. My love language is acts of service. Planning events and creating memories for clients with my hands is all love. I started slowly doing events for my children and family members. I received lots of referrals and I also promote myself on social media. It’s hard work and dedication some nights I don’t sleep because I’m trying to prepare everything. I do a lot of the behind the scenes work myself as well as the heavy lifting. I just continue to invest in myself and network with others in the industry.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that money is not always the motive. Respect is! I had to start setting boundaries and turn away clients when I was already stretched too thin.
Can you talk to us about your experience with selling businesses?
Yes I sold my sleepover tent business. I originally bought all the things for a party for my Neice but my sister decide to go a different route all together. I struggled with getting bookings for the sleepover tents so after sitting in the storage over 6 months o decide to just sell that part of my business. Crazy part is I sold it the first day it was listed and I had several offers. I hope they were able to make the most out of it because that just wasn’t for me.
