We were lucky to catch up with Carmalita Rodgers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Carmalita thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission at BOLD&FITT Fitness and Nutrition is to educate, encourage, and empower women to achieve overall wellness in the areas of physical, spiritual, and mental health so they can live the abundant life they were created to live.
The Vision: to see women (along with men, and children) living longer, happier, and healthier lives because they love themselves enough to make healthy lifestyle choices.
Carmalita’s personal mission: It is my mission to use my high energy and positivity to teach others, especially women to love themselves by being intentional about taking care of their temples so they can live life more abundantly. (by experiencing more of God’s love, joy, and peace and by loving others unconditionally)
The story:
For over 20 years, I had been unofficially helping people in fitness while working full-time as a classroom teacher in public education. I am a teacher to the core, so I have decided to switch classrooms and educate women on leading healthier lives.
I know what it feels like to lose yourself in marriage and in a career. I decided I was sick and tired of taking care of everyone else while neglecting myself. I began to seek God more, invested in a spiritual life coach, put in work to discover more of who I am, and worked on becoming a better version of myself. I’m still on that journey, however, I’ve learned so much about living a healthy life that I have the desire to coach and train other women. I talk to so many women who have neglected themselves and have lost their confidence in the busyness of life.
I also know what it’s like to eat what the industry calls “healthy” and still not reach your goals. I’ve been certified as a Beachbody Insanity instructor since 2014 and have been teaching classes ever since. I took a little break, and then, during the pandemic, I became a certified nutrition weight loss coach and a fitness and wellness coach. Once I started implementing the things I was learning from my courses, I was able to obtain and maintain my goal weight, be more energized, and have more confidence than ever.
I now desire to educate, empower, and encourage other women who are ready to make healthy lifestyle choices.
I am all about faith, fitness, food, and fun!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I shared a little about how I got in the industry in the previous response.
I offer online boot camps, which I call FITT Camp. This is a 12-week online boot camp that includes weekly devotionals, Faith Talks about the devotionals, live group training/workout sessions, and nutrition coaching.
I also provide personal training services.
I work with women who are tired of the yo-yo of losing weight and gaining it back, they are ready to invest in themselves and make lifestyle changes. They desire to build a healthy lifestyle, not just go on a diet.
I believe that God has a beautiful plan for each of our lives and wants to be a part of every aspect, including our health, which is why the faith component is a major piece of my program. The goal should be to glorify God in all that we do and to take care of the temple that we have been given so we can do what were put on earth to do.
BOLD means to live out loud, confidently without restraint, it’s also an acronym that means Bless Other Lives Daily. FITT means to physical fitness and it’s an acronym that stands for Faithfully Investing in The Temple.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ll share a story within a story… For most of my childhood I remember wanting to be a (school) teacher. I’d play school with my dolls, my sister, and friends. Then, in high school I learned that I was a pretty good writer and learned about journalism, wrote for the school newspaper, won a few awards, and eventually became the editor in chief. I had a whole 10 year plan for my journalism career prepared. I started at the University of Texas with a major in journalism, changed to speech pathology and after a feeling unsure of my future I had a conversation with my olderst sister and she asked what would I enjoy doing everyday for free, I knew that was teaching, so I changed my major to education. I graduated and ending up teaching (and coaching teachers) for 20 years in the public school system. For a long that’s all I wanted to do, but around year 12 or 13, I started to like the “system” anymore. I just didn’t know what I could else I could do. I did taught some fitness classes off and on, but it wasnt until a series of some personal problems that caused me to draw closer to God. I began to get a vision for some other things. During the pandemic, I had gotten a nutrition certification and then a fitness certification. Then in 2022, it was time to start the business, and BOLD & FITT was birthed and launched at the end of 2022/ beginning of 2023.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I have no background in building clientele or building a social media following, so I hired a business coach who is also a personal trainer who owns her own fitness business. She’s been in her personal training business for about 15 years now. She has taught me a lot about being a business owner. One of the first things she shared with me was to create a free product that I could give away in exchange for email address. That was the strategy to build an email list to nurture and build relationship and community and that one day would be come a client. so, I created a lead magnet, it was called “BOLD & FITT For The Holidays”. It was a five day guide for busy women who wanted to make healthy choices during the Christmas holiday season. She also had me to post and go live on my personal Facebook page to inform my friends and family about my new business. After that I held my first 14 day challenge, The RESET Smoothie and Salad Challenge.
