We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carly Wright. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carly below.
Hi Carly, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
Working with parents of young kids, you can imagine that I get a lot of questions day to day. More often than not, the theme of the questions ends up being, “am I doing this right?” or “what’s the best way to (insert challenge here).” The best piece of advice I have give to my clients when getting it right is at the forefront of their experience is, “everything works until it doesn’t, and that’s ok.” The first few years of parenting are challenging. There are rapid changes you as a parent are experiencing physically, emotionally and relationally on top of the rapid development your child is going through. Now more than ever parents are faced with a ton of information at their fingertips which can be equal parts helpful and anxiety producing. Which is why I like toi guide my parents to sitck with what works, until it doesn’t, and feel safe in being able to change direction based on what their families needs happen to be. This simple shift in mindset has had the biggest impact to my clients over the years.

Carly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! I’m Carly Jean Wright MSW – parent coach, somatic healing facilitator, postpartum mental health advocate and mom to a spicy and active 4 year old. I began working with kids and families who experienced trauma in 2007 after finishing up my BA in psychology. That experience led me to continue working with children and families to help them stabilize their family systems, create coping skills and crisis intervention plans that worked for them. In 2012, I graduated with my Masters Degree in Social Work from Monmouth University where I focused on International and Community Development. This experience helped me understand the need for family advocacy at the macro level. Since that time, I have completed additional certifications and trainings in trauma informed care, yoga, reiki, somatic parts work, play based theraputic interventions and relational therapy. After experiencing postpartum depression & rage following the birth of my son in 2019, I became passionate about learning how to better support moms in the transition to motherhood. All of these experiences combined to where I am today. Supporting moms of young children in learning whole family regulation skills so that they can feel better equipped to deal with their emotions as well as their little ones with big feelings. I host ongoing workshops, published a journal to help postpartum moms, have online courses and work with families 1:1 virtually or in person in San Diego. My biggest accomplishments come from the moments where I witness my clients celebrating their progress. When I can support a new mom from feeling completely overwhelmed with the phase of motherhood they’re in, to feeling more confident in their decisions and having a better handle on meeting their children’s emotional needs in a creative, play based way.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Community! One thing I have learned in the past 6 years of being a business owner is that making connections and creating community is integral to not only your success as an entrepreneur, but also for your well being. Especially being a mom and a business owner of a primarily online business, having spaces and relationships in your community help the challenging seasons feel better. Collaboration, creativity and community are so key when building, scaling and starting a business. There’s always something that you can learn from your peers in the field and especially with parenting, the more you can connect with other thought leaders and professionals, the more families you can help. When everyone wins, everyone wins.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Showing up authentically. When I became a mom in 2019 I began to show my less than graceful transition into motherhood. It was raw, messy and at times really lonely. Although it was a challenging time in my life, I feel like that lived experience helped me to establish a more intimate relationship with my community and helped me have a better understanding of what so many of my clients have bee struggling with over the years. I have a unique voice in the field, combining humor, real storeis and nearly 2 decades of knowledge and expertise in supporting families. Parents know when they come to my practice or into my community, theyr’e going to laugh, heal and feel supported in a non judgemental way.
