We recently connected with Carly Rubin and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Carly, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
One day in particular, i had my writing intercuts taken away in school due to the drawings i was doing instead of reading and taking notes. I was always getting in trouble for things like that, along with drawing on myself at school, because i wanted to look like all the tattooed people i’ve seen at that point in my life. My mother is heavily tattooed since i was young, so i always saw it as this beautiful way to embrace who you are. I was never academically driven, i always found myself focusing on art and imagery, since i was a kid! All i ever did was draw, paint, whatever medium i could get my hands on. It always took me to a place of quietness and calmness, still does to this day. I always knew i would have a creative/ artistic path ahead of me, i just had to make it happen somehow.

Carly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started out being artistic since i was a kid, never was interested in reading or school i just liked drawing and seeing what i was capable of creating. I always knew a desk job was never my avenue, and i made sure of that. I started doing tattoos out of my dining room, then eventually got my first job ever in a shop! That was a very humbling time for me, but i learned so much that got me to where i am today. I paint using so many different mediums, and on so many different surfaces. my significant other is a drummer and i use his drumheads as canvases for example. i just adding my art to regular everyday objects. i like to think my style sets me apart from others, and the way u make my clients feel comfortable in their own skin by adding art to it! I am definitely most proud of how far i have gotten, and the obstacles i overcome everyday, along with gaining confidence in myself and my art. I’d love the readers to know i am very into r with my job, my art and what i get to do everyday. Passion is very important to me, and my clients is what keeps me going. I love making art that pops, and makes some people scratch their heads at the same time. I love the macabre, the weird stuff, and making it beautiful to people who would usually be drawn away from something similar. I can create customs works of any kind on any object, canvas, you name it! Having my job be a painter/ tattoo artist has been amazing, and i’m so lucky to have the opportunity.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have been denied by ships before, getting into the industry when i first started, was definitely a learning curve. From working in my dining room, to actual shop environments was the craziest journey and the mystery of the industry is was keeps me going!
