We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carly Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Carly, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I’d like to say yes, I would have started my business earlier and part of me does. However, I also enjoyed being a phlebotomist and medical assistant before turning my passion and love for photography into career. I also believe God had a plan and everything has led up to me having a job I love so much.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a Greenville, SC-based wedding and elopement photographer. Documenting the madly in love, fun and adventurous couples, wherever their love story may take me. Being a wedding photographer is so much more than a job to me. It’s something I truly love doing and take very seriously. You can’t get those moments back. It’s always an honor when someone chooses you to capture their special day. I am proud of the way my photos artfully tell this important chapter of their story. My work embodies the real, the candid, and the authentic. My passion lies in creating images inspired by the love between the couple and the details of their day. I fully invest myself in every one of my couples to make their wedding day as stress-free and perfect as I possibly can.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing about being an elopement and wedding photographer is getting to capture moments that people can relive over and over through my photos. They’re moments and emotions you can’t reproduce. Long after the cake has been eaten, the flowers die and everyone goes home, people will still have their beautiful photos capturing everything from their day. Also,I am reminded at each wedding and elopement just how good and amazing our God is. Weather it’s taking in the scenic location God created or two becoming one, you can truly feel God’s presence and that is something so special and so rewarding.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Honeybook – I wish I signed up for honeybook earlier. I was using Docusign for contracts and invoices and man was it a pain.
Mentorships – I wish I spent the money early on for a mentorship. As someone who didn’t go to school for business or accounting. There is only so much reading and watching videos can do.
