We recently connected with Carlotta Harper and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Carlotta thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
This was the best topic for what I’m currently facing , in my business which is staffing and hiring dependable staff. I have been in business almost six years. I started very small out my home and just making food k would charge people for.Since those days I have added more revenue for the event industry. I had the idea to be the one stop Shop for any client needing assistance with corporate or personal gatherings. I have been a one woman show for the majority of my entrepreneurial years. I had the “it’s my brand” I can only do it correctly attitude, Until my business began growing tremendously and I had to ask my family and friends to help me with big events. I begin to research more opportunities to learn more from an entrepreneur prospective and was chosen to be a student of Launch Raleigh a eleven week course.
That information helped my business knowledge tremendously and then Tasty Tweets adds another business and needs staff badly most are part time positions. I had a vision when I began this business was to help single parents with extra money and flexibility in schedule from own experience and hardships. Since covid it has been hard
For big or small businesses to find good
Employees. I will Continue to be patient and take On only what I can with the staff we managed To still have us in our early stages before the new major projects in 2023.
Carlotta, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Chef Carly born as Carlotta Harper a single mother of two from Connecticut. I have been in the Carolina since my college days. I begin with just cater small Events or just cooking for others And
They would ask me to set it up and serve as well. I had a niche for class and savvy style since my younger days. I was considered “bougie”, because I loved lobster and other seafood more than fast food. That’s where I decided it’s many people that love to eat flavorful, seasonal, some consider expensive palate. I cater to that target market: Since we recently added entertainment vending to our services , ie photo booths and musical options. I have a determination to make others smile
And enjoy while I create those atmospheres..
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
My side hustle was one until I researched how to it into a profitable business. When you are doing it as a side hustle you can’t keep track of what you make or spend from other income. It was so empowering when I got My business bank account ,DBA businesses added, hired an accountant. I had my website professionally done along with a branding class and Photo shoot. My clients begin to change for the better and bigger , it matched my growing ambition to succeed.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by uploading videos of my Cooking or guests eating my dishes and their reactions were so comical and authentic. I also posted frequently even when it wasn’t all fancy these days with reels. I got a lot of my Clients from Facebook And Instagram i didn’t know or where reffered to one of those pages prior to my website being available.
