We recently connected with Carlos Rascón García Aka (carlosnewmusic/DJ Ras/Zarp DJ) and have shared our conversation below.
Carlos , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
It all started one day when I was looking for radio stations and I came across MaximaFM which it was the most important electronic music radio station in Spain at that time about 2010-2011 now called 40Dance, from that moment I fell in love with electronic music. I was going through a bad moment in my life and it was the music that I heard that took me out of my depression so I tried to help more people with that music, I wanted to share it and make it reach more ears. A few months later I heard that Arturo Grao, a radio host on Maxima51chat was asking for help to discover new songs to introduce on the radio; I offered myself and sent some emails with some songs included like Higuer of Taito Cruz or Lead The Way of Carlos Jean, among many others, after a time and several emails I made a Facebook to share the music to him through there since it can be very tedious by email. sometime later I got the record of entries in Maximafm list with 16 entries of new songs in the list of Maxima51chat between 2012 and 2013 of which I shared them to the group (Maximafm, los 40Principales, etc), Europafm, several blogs, and smaller radios, achieved more than 400. 000 visits on Google+ (like Facebook but Google) and that more than 90% of the list of Maxima51Chat were songs that I passed voluntarily, and this climb of 400k listeners according to the EGM (General Study of Spanish Media) for it between 2011-2014 ( https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QhNGWFp4RVc/Xow2dVqiIZI/AAAAAAAATiQ/b_FlLvbU5eQQjP3Nvg7Lk0dXIF4ohgqlQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/maximhisto. jpg )[image that documents this part of the story, if you can not put it remove the link] and we’ll between my studies and that they charged the DJs 30,000 euros to put their songs with little impact on the radio , I slowly stopped collaborating with them. I later created the radio from a Facebook page with less than 600 followers until now that are more than 12k between all our social networks
Carlos , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are organized as a non-profit organization for promotion and diffusion of electronic music and culture. We are specialized in offering opportunities to new talents in electronic music, whatever their style or sub-style is, either by broadcasting their songs or with radio shows if they wish and reach the standards. We don’t like the label EDM as a style but as a set of electronic dance music styles. We support any style of electronic music, be it more mainstream or more underground. What sets us apart from others is that we never charge DJs and artists to play on our radio, as other stations and media outlets do. We believe that music is for expressing art, not for limiting it to only people who can afford it.
Join us as a DJ in the following form https://forms.gle/6Sm4c4isr9kEJLYP7
Besides that, we recognize the work of all our volunteers, giving them the recognition they deserve. We are a big gear which is gradually moved by each collaborator. Each of us can add something valuable in different areas, so we all can learn and grow hand in hand. If you wish you can join as a volunteer from this form https://forms.gle/AgQh8ftiNNeqJgUL9
Soon we will offer multiple services such as an online shop or some updates in our website edwradio.tk. Whether they are related to music or not, it will be a way of funding our project and keep it going. Anyways, you can always donate directly to the project from https://paypal.me/electrodanceworld.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My colleague Laura Blanco Vivero will answer this question as she is the creator of the project since the beginning: I created the EDW Radio webpage (ElectroDanceWorld Radio) in 2014, a project for unknown DJs to share their projects and work and make themselves known.
I’ve always been in love with electronic music and my biggest dream is that this project could reach different parts of Spain and the world… There are a lot of people who don’t know electronic music and think it’s just noise when electronic music is very diverse and multicultural, so much that there are more than 300 styles!
There are professional DJs and non-professional DJs who live their work with enthusiasm and deserve to be known and heard… EDW is the door to make themselves known, to be listened and to enjoy what they do. That’s why I created it 🤩🤩.
The advice I can give is to be enthusiastic and keep working to make this project a reality and never lose sight of the goal.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Well, to see things that perhaps other more logical minds don’t see at first sight, to have innovative and groundbreaking ideas and to provide solutions to problems that seem complex. In other words, to come up with points of view that others did not. On the musical side, to see how people enjoy and are happy with what you play; also by receiving spontaneous positive feedback from any person thanking you for what you do.
