We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carlos Perez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Carlos, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my company is Prime Vice Studios. Prime comes from primary or primal, It represents what is instinctual and natural. Vice as in that something that grips you and can’t live without. Studios as in the type of space the business occupies. PVS is a creative company where one’s deepest compulsions can manifest in a constructive way.
Carlos, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course. Well, I developed my business from wanting to establish a space where I can build from my skillset and continue to pursue my dreams without any type of ceilings or limits. Through PVS we offer original books and merchandise designed and published in-house. PVS services include IP development for people, brands, business and organizations. This includes concept and IP asset development, content creation, and branding materials. We provide the service of helping others turn their ideas into assets. We do all of the prep work so that IPs are eligible for protection (copyright, trademark, patent, etc) and can grow in value over time.
PVS is also a roster of teaching artists. We teach workshops and train creators as well. We are proud that our brand is a symbol of fun, ownership, freedom, innovation and creativity. As time passes we hope to be impactful and part of people’s lives in a way that enhances them and their way of life.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
My business has completely self-funded. I put together the initial capital by saving money from student loans and all of the jobs I’ve done over time. Initially PVS was a sole proprietorship which then was upgraded to the current Limited Liability Company.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve always had to pivot in business. I adapted and took on various and diverse opportunities that presented themselves. At different times PVS focused on certain type of work depending on the clientele that we serviced. Sometimes we did art commissions, other times just a series of speaking events, creator workshops, creating comic books, graphic designs, writing content narratives. PVS is a flexible business that has remained sustainable due to its ability to adapt and take on a variety of challenges. No matter how different or out of comfort zone a project may be we the common denominator in all satisfied clients is that they connected with us and were compatible.
