We were lucky to catch up with Carlos Cipriano recently and have shared our conversation below.
Carlos, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I really wish I had started sooner! There’s this quote I came across that really spoke to me, something like “As soon as you figure out what it is you want to do, just go for it.” I think that’s so true, and I definitely wish I had trusted myself a little earlier. We often know what we want deep down, but fear and doubt can be such a drag, right? Now, looking back at those early dreams, I can’t believe I let fear hold me back for so long.
Because honestly, no matter when you start, you’re absolutely going to make mistakes and have some setbacks at the beginning. But that’s all part of the process, and the sooner you get those stumbles and setbacks out of the way, the sooner you get to actually do what you love. Looking back, I wish I had trusted myself sooner and dove headfirst into my creative passions.
I kept waiting for some magical “right time” or feeling of being “ready,” but that time never seemed to come. Getting started is always the hardest part, that’s for sure.
Now I’m super mindful of my time and how I spend it. I also try to jump into projects as soon as the inspiration strikes. Getting started has become my favorite part of the creative process! It used to be so scary to make something bad or imperfect, but I’ve learned to embrace the messiness. After all, nothing ever feels perfect in the eyes of the creator, right?
I actually started my music career at 24, shortly after the pandemic. And sure, a part of me wishes I had started piano lessons at 4 or guitar at 14, but you know what? There’s no rewind button in life. The important thing is, I’m here now, making music and loving every minute of it. Just recently, I got a degree in Music Production and now I am doing a Vocal Performance program at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood. These experiences have taught me valuable lessons about overcoming fear, embracing imperfection, and jumping into new things – lessons that are valuable for anyone starting a creative journey, no matter the age.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Cipriano Carlos, a Mexican-American artist still learning and growing. My musical journey began on stage doing musical theater, but it took an unexpected detour when I joined the U.S. Air Force after high school. There, music became a powerful tool for self-expression, a way to find my voice amidst the challenges.
While music is my true passion, I’m also drawn to exploring other creative avenues. I’ve found success connecting with audiences online through humor and relatable experiences, even hosting my own YouTube show. I guess you could call me a multi-hyphenate, constantly seeking new ways to express myself.
But it’s on stage where I feel most alive. I combine elements of indie folk, regional Mexicano, bolero, and pop to create a sound that’s both fresh and, I hope, captivating. My lyrics, whispered stories of resilience, love, and self-discovery, aim to inspire listeners to embrace their own journeys.
What truly sets me apart? Maybe it’s the way my music reflects my heritage, the experiences that shaped me, and the desire for connection that we all share. I aspire to be a voice for those who might feel unseen, using music to build bridges and forge genuine connections. Whether I’m performing live, creating content, or hosting a show, my goal is to create art that resonates with your soul and ignites the spark of human connection.
What am I most proud of? The connections I’ve made with the people that watch my videos. It’s incredibly humbling to know that my story and humor can resonate with others.
So, that’s me. If you’re looking for good entertainment and music that’s honest, soulful, and full of energy, then I hope you’ll give my work a chance. Join me on this journey of exploration and discovery.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
It is March 2020, and I was getting out of the military with this grand plan – a few months backpacking Europe to clear my head and figure out my next chapter. Then, of course! Global pandemic. Travel restrictions and all that. So, there I am in Oklahoma where I had been stationed against my own will for what seemed like an eternity, with way more free time than I bargained for, and no job.
Having that extra time, I read the book Rich Dad Poor Dad and started to listen to the Bigger Pockets podcast, I started to get really into it and learn as much as I could. Instead of European adventures, I decided to invest in a property. It went well, and I even got lucky with an amazing realtor who I kept in touch with. Sometime later, she called to thank me for a referral, and mentioned she just got her broker license. That sparked the question, and i said “Hey, why not?” I studied for the real estate license, passed the test, and dove right in.
I loved it! There’s something really satisfying about that whole process. But, you know, life gets busy. Now I mostly focus on managing my own portfolio, which is great in itself. But that whole experience really showed me the importance of being adaptable. Here I was, all set for one thing, and the universe threw me a curveball. But hey, it led me down a path I might not have explored otherwise, and that’s pretty cool.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
There are a lot of ways to support artists! First I would say, start local and spread the love! Supporting the artists you know personally is a fantastic first step. Those friends who are always creating – musicians playing gigs, painters showcasing their work, writers sharing their stories – they’re the lifeblood of the local creative scene. Buy their art, attend their events, and actively consume what they create.
Engage in their social media! Engaging with artists on social media is a powerful, and free, way to show support. Likes, comments, and shares all contribute to an artist’s visibility and can lead to real opportunities. It’s like digital word-of-mouth, spreading the love and helping artists connect with a wider audience. Don’t underestimate the power of a genuine compliment or sharing a piece of art that resonates with you. And yes, while consuming free content is great, if you’re able, consider supporting artists who offer paid options like merchandise, subscriptions, or paid performances. It’s an investment in the creative ecosystem that benefits everyone. Fair compensation allows artists to keep creating and hone their craft.
By taking these steps, we can all play a role in fostering a thriving creative community. Remember, every interaction, every purchase, and every voice raised in support makes a difference.
