Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carlos Chavez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Carlos thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I believe I was in my second year of college studying business when I started noticing I wasn’t excited about what I was pursuing. Acting had always been a close friend of mine but at the time I thought it was more of a hobby than anything. I wasn’t allowing myself to believe I could have a career in the arts. Around that second year I had a wake up call that reminded me we are here to be happy and that we are in charge of our own choices in life. We make decisions every day so I decided that I was going to allow myself to experience what acting meant to me and what I could learn from it. You’d be surprised how the path opens up once you let yourself be guided by passion and love.

Carlos, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was Born in Peru and started acting from a young age. I fell in love with the art form after performing in Hamlet. This love compelled me to take the leap and move to Los Angeles, where I earned an Associates in Fine Arts degree. In 2019, I was so thankful to be nominated for Best Actor by the BroadwayWorld Regional Awards for my performance in “Telenovela” and in 2022 The Valley Theater Awards nominated me and the rest of the cast of “Romeo and Juliet in Hell” for best Ensemble. Most recent accomplishments in the industry include working with the amazing Christopher Lloyd and Richard Kind in the movie “Tankhouse”. I truly believe in the healing powers of performance. From the laughter of comedy to the tears of tragedy, I believe performance brings us all together for just a moment where no matter race or creed, we get to take part in something transcendent.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I found that social media is a beautiful tool if it’s used with the right intention. We’ve all heard that nowadays platforms like Instagram and YouTube have become almost as important as resumes. They show most of your branding and help people find out more abut who you are. It’s also accessible to everyone. Everyday you can start creating your own content. You can right now write a script, film it and upload it . It’s never been this easy to put yourself out there creatively and tell your story. I’m thankful that I learned more about social media over time; it has allowed me to grow and meet so many like minded people. That’s how I got to work with the team of Social Currant. So not only is there room for growth as a creative individual but also a chance to help the planet and create a positive change.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The power of performance. There’s something magical about being able to step into some character’s shoes and tell their story in front of a camera or an audience. Someone miles away that you’ve never met could watch the project you were in and connect with your character in such a way that for just a moment they don’t feel alone. They feel understood, inspired, connected. I think performance brings us together. As actors it is our job to bring justice to this characters and tell their stories with love and respect.
