We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carlinn Esquilin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Carlinn, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
My prayer is that my legacy would be that who I am has a lasting impression on everyone I meet in this industry

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Carlinn Esquilin and I am a beauty professional and have been for 13 years. I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for 10 years and I’ve worked in every beauty space imaginable from the age of 15. My mother was a cosmetologist as well, so I grew up in the salon as a kid and beauty is something that has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I specialize in every texture. I’ve always pride myself on that because unfortunately that is lacking in the beauty industry even in 2025. Currently, I’m specializing in bridal hair and formal event here. My bread and butter I would say is silk presses and bouncy blowouts. I feel like the problem I solve in the industry is being able to be a chameleon in every space that I occupy any challenge that is set in front of me I am sure to conquer it by the grace of God. The Lord has given me a special and unique gift of being a multi talented and gifted individual in the beauty industry, not only do I do hair, but I also do makeup and nails as well. I’m not sure what’s next for me in this industry but one thing I do know is that it will be a part of my life forever.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe what helped me build my reputation in the market is my character. The Bible says “Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1. I truly believe that not only my character, but also the Lord opening doors for me and me being obedient to walk through them.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy I found for growing my clientele Is through relationships and word-of-mouth. I know most people would say social media these days, which is helpful, but I truly believe growing a clientele that aligns with your values really stems from relationships.
