We recently connected with Carlie Ramsey and have shared our conversation below.
Carlie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we talk about all of your success, let’s start with a story of failure. Can you open up about a time when you’ve failed?
I launched my podcast last year, full of enthusiasm and determination. However, after releasing just three episodes, I found myself overwhelmed and had to stop. Balancing a new job and maintaining a consistent podcast schedule proved to be too much. I also felt a deep responsibility to the victims whose stories I was telling. I wanted to honor their memories properly, but I felt I wasn’t able to do that under the circumstances. So, I made the difficult decision to pause the podcast for almost a year.
During this hiatus, I focused on settling into my new job and regaining my balance. It was a humbling experience, admitting that I couldn’t do it all at once. But it taught me the importance of prioritizing and taking the time needed to do things right. Now that I’m more focused and prepared, I’m ready to restart my podcast with renewed energy and dedication. This experience of failure taught me resilience and the value of perseverance, and it has made me more committed than ever to doing justice to the stories I share.

Carlie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course, my name is Carlie Ramsey, and I’m 25 years old. I got into true crime podcasting because I was obsessed with various podcasts and their unique approaches. Initially, I wanted my podcast to focus on missing Black and Brown persons, as I felt they didn’t receive enough media coverage. However, after researching and reaching out to a few families, I realized that covering active investigations wasn’t the right path for me.
So, I went back to the drawing board and decided to focus on serial killers based on their zodiac signs—two subjects I was extremely interested in. My podcast aims to increase visibility and help people understand what creates a serial killer, exploring the impact of their environments, their treatment, and the nature versus nurture debate. It’s fascinating to examine the stories from the perspectives of both the killers and the victims, as well as the families left behind. Additionally, I find it intriguing to see if the stars somehow influence our fates through zodiac signs.
This year, I’m most proud of my consistency and determination to put out content. I believe it doesn’t have to be perfect, but it’s essential to be consistent and put yourself out there.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I stay in touch with my listeners, whom I call my “sleuths,” through a bi-weekly email that accompanies my podcast. I also keep up with them through my Instagram.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my podcast audience has been consistency and brand awareness. Once I identified and honed in on my niche, it became easier to expand my reach.
