We were lucky to catch up with Carli Castro recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Carli thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I often ask myself, “…what legacy will I leave behind?” My prayer is that it is a legacy of love, forgiveness, kindness, and compassion. And that it helps someone else consider…What matters to others? Photography allows more of an impact on my legacy because I’m constantly sharing my art. And sharing my art is equivalent to expressing my thoughts and emotions. Leaving a legacy of love is important to the artists community, because love and encouragement holds up each others business, social media account, etc.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Photography is defined as the ‘art or practice of taking and processing photographs. Admiring this art since I was young, I taught myself the ethics and beauty of photography. Now older, with over 5 years of experience, I’ve seen the world through a lens of possibility. Being able to use this artistry as a lifestyle is beyond a dream! Photography and videography allow me to consider and portray how to best capture the candid image. Utilizing unique editing skills enables each camera shot to have endless effects. My absolute favorite style of photography is film. Even when I shoot in digital, my instinct is to edit through the lens of the often-neglected style of film. Until photography came into the picture, I found joy in many creative spaces, but none held my interest for very long. Photography is truly an outlet for me to express and explore every way of life. Poetry, art, and music are a staple companion to my photography style. Bringing photos to life allows me to be myself while displaying my work ethic. Through the years, I found myself searching for an abstract feeling in my work to really tell a story, paint the picture & grab hold of the moment. Each and every day, I ask God to inspire me through my lens to recreate His image more than my own. I’d like to call myself more than a photographer…rather, a photographic storyteller.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The ultimate goal is to develop my art around the world. Showcase my work in hidden cities. Traveling is something to utilize as an inspiration board. Traveling is the ultimate goal-whether that’s as a personal photographer; capturing the culture of wherever I’m exploring; or, editorial art. Professionally, it’s vital to me to have a reputation that consistently reflects my view of art through the lens. Artistically, I believe there’s also an opportunity to Influence others in their own photography, which will ultimately impact the platform of photographic artistry
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Most artists would say their art is an outlet and I would agree! Photography is rewarding…a place to express emotions through a simple capture of an image. Another benefit is exploring my surroundings, while living new experiences. Building relationships with my clients through the process of creating is so awesome. Seeing personalities through the lens empowers them to be free TO BE. Being true to my art keeps me out of the ‘comparison game’. I love seeing how others use their talent and it gives me space to live out mine. I always say “art is art” and you can’t create ugly art.
