We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carli Abiuso. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carli below.
Carli, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Risk taking goes hand in hand with living the life of a creative. The risk is on all levels — financial, spiritual, emotional, and practical. But I have come to equate risk with betting on myself and having faith I will always win, even if it’s scary. The innate “risk” lies in the sharing of your art or creative expression. Putting it out into the world is intimidating, because you have to get over the fear of judgement and rejection. Beyond that, the risk is in living a life that doesn’t look like what others may consider conventional, stable, or “realistic.” I took my first major risk when I was 22. I had always known I wanted to live in New York City one day, and I worked three jobs for a year after college to save up for the move. I only knew one person who lived there and had no job lined up — just a dream to pursue a dance career, a spot in a prestigious dance program for the summer, and a calling from the city itself. I didn’t know anything about living on my own far away from family, how I would afford such expensive rent, or how to get around via the intricate subway system. Not everyone I told believed in me, and some thought I was crazy, but I didn’t care. I remember feeling fearless and energized with excitement. I am so grateful that my younger self had the courage to take that leap. Had I not bet on myself and trusted my heart and vision, I would never be where I am today. It really is true that great risk reaps great reward. I’ve taken many risks since then — financial investments in myself and my career, moving across the country to LA, transitioning careers into a full-time coach and content creator, and tons of things in between. Although artists have to get used to taking more risks on a daily basis, it is always my hope that I can inspire others to do the same so they too can experience their grandest adventure in this life.
Carli, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been enraptured by the world of art for as long as I can remember. Singing, dancing, drawing, writing, acting — I love it all! I also have always loved the world of fantasy, novels, and heroic tales which led me to my degree in English Literature; and have been equally immersed in crystals, tarot, nature, and astrology. As I was pursuing my performing arts career, another journey began to unfold as my spirituality deepened and I came across books like the Alchemist, the Celestine Prophecy, the Secret, and one called Unveiled Mysteries that I found in the basement of the Strand in NYC that changed my perception of the world. I was deeply intrigued by ancient cultures, ancient wisdom, and quests that came before. I started to fill my bookcase with these topics. My mom had always said the mantra “your thoughts create your reality” but it wasn’t until I started listening to podcasts and reading books on manifestation that it hit home. Manifesting felt like real life magick and I became obsessed with listening about it, talking about it, and trying all of the methods. After moving to LA, I had changed my main focus from dancing to acting and manifested an agent and some great auditions and gigs, but I wasn’t feeling fulfilled. I had been doing deep inner work on myself for a few years, and was on a walk when I had an epiphany: I was waiting for someone to tell me I was good enough and that I had “made it.” When I started questioning what I really desired out of life, I felt like I had so much more to create and offer. I had acquired so much knowledge and wisdom from years of research and trial and error, and I felt like I was doing a disservice to my highest self and the world if I didn’t share it. The inner journey and manifestation had changed my life, and I wanted to help others do the same. I wanted to step into the real leadership role that had always called me — it was time to take my destiny into my own hands. I had been writing the affirmation “I am a successful business owner” for over a year even though I had no clue what that business would be. I wanted to have time and financial freedom while fulfilling a greater purpose and mission. And I thought, if all of these other creators have made businesses out of it, why not me? I asked the Universe and my guides for help, and the idea for Your Hero’s Quest downloaded in a rush that morning. It would combine everything I love — mythology and legends with spirituality and self-development, drawing on ancient wisdom for the modern age. It would inspire people on their own hero’s journey, to take those risks and bet on themselves. To cross thresholds into the unknown to find their higher purpose and be truly fulfilled in this lifetime. To recognize their inherent power to create their reality and break free of the mundane. To live magickally and with joy by following their bliss. It started as a podcast and YouTube channel, expanded onto TikTok and Instagram where I post daily inspiration and manifestation tips, and then into a business. Although there are tons of manifestation coaches out there, what sets me apart is bringing in the aspect of looking at our own life as a grand myth we are the hero of. This mindset, in my opinion, offers a mystical and deep quality to living. Myth is a doorway to the subconscious, and that is where we can reprogram our mindset and beliefs to change our external circumstances. The main manifestation tool I use and teach isn’t the Law of Attraction, but the Law of Assumption. It has changed my life on every level, and changes the lives of my clients. What we assume to be true about ourselves and what we are capable of doing and receiving, will be! When we change our self-concept, we change what is reflected back to us. And, visualization through imagination is our superpower that creates things before we see them. I authored a Law of Assumption workshop that takes you through exactly how to use it to create the reality of your dreams. This law is infallible and works 100% of the time. You really are the magick wand and can manifest anything you want to experience! I am just so proud to be able to empower thousands of people to remember this, because the more people change internally and live in their purpose and joy, the world at large changes for the better.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
One of my main goals and that has always been the driving force in my creative journey has been to be a flame-bearer of a larger mission that has been woven throughout the ages. Without art and creativity, what would be the point of living? Plato believed that the highest principle to attain and aim for was absolute beauty. That this was at the heart of Eros and was a vehicle for a union with the divine and higher states of consciousness. This can be seen in bygone eras: in the medieval courts of love, the Renaissance, the Romantic period and the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. It is also evident in old architecture, where every window and mirror and pillar was ornate. Even the drain pipes were beautiful. My artistic soul has always felt almost a sense of mourning at modern culture’s minimalism, concrete buildings, and technology that are in such stark contrast to this. It feels harsh and disconnected from that deeper mystery, that vehicle to the divine. So really my mission and goal is to keep the flame alive through my work. To show people that we can create a beautiful reality for ourselves and that it is important to live connected to the magick that whispers through art, poetry, myth, manifestation, and creativity.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think everyone is a creative since creation is the driving force of nature! We all had grand dreams as children to follow what lit us up the most and it often is society or our own limiting beliefs that cause us to go into a less creative field or to shun the creative journey as even being a possibility. Artists, in my opinion, really are the bravest for this reason! That’s not to say everyone can be or is going to be a painter or writer or singer, but that everyone has a high quest that is awaiting them — that only they are appointed to through their unique gifts and talents. This is why I’m so passionate about our ability to create our reality! Because art is undervalued in our society and productivity is placed much higher, many people are just programmed to not follow that call. To think they have to be “realistic” with their life. I think what people who have taken a non-creative journey might struggle to understand the most is that it IS possible! It is possible to do what you love and make a full-time living from it. It is possible to make a year’s salary in a month working for yourself. It is possible to truly have it all in life. It is possible to live freely and in true happiness. It just takes a mindset shift out of what you were told and start living for your own truth no matter what anyone else thinks. The journey as a creative is as much an inward journey as it is outward! And is the most rewarding there is in life.
