We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carley Fischer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carley below.
Alright, Carley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project that I have worked on is definitely the songs that I have made with my band Two Headed Girl. I’ve been writing songs since I was very young, so being able to turn them into complete, full band compositions with my best friends is really magical. I record and produce the songs myself so I’m with them every step of the way and love watching them come to life. I think the most surreal thing is that recently at our shows, people know the words and sing them back to us, which is a crazy, emotional, and validating experience. I spend so much time with these songs alone in my bedroom, seeing them reach and connect with other people and start to create a community is really fulfilling.
Carley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Carley Fischer and my band is called Two Headed Girl. The band includes my oldest friend Tommy English on drums and my other good friend Daisy Lang on lead guitar. We released a full length album in 2023 titled “You Are Here,” and have released another single called “Dry Shampoo” since then. I record and produce all of our music.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I think all I really want is to connect with people and form a community. I put a lot of my heart into my music, so if someone tells me it resonates with them, we’re not strangers anymore because there is a sameness there. I want to make people feel seen and understood with my music, which in turn makes me feel seen and understood as well. It feels hard and weird to be emotionally vulnerable and put myself out there sometimes, but it’s so worth it when I can see that it’s reaching others.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I think a lesson that I had to unlearn is that I don’t have to do EVERYTHING myself. I love DIY music culture but there was a point where I was taking on too much and it was restricting to the project because I was doing all of the recording, production, mixing, promotion, merch design, making the merch, making every show flyer, and the list goes on. It was really hard to keep up with everything and made it difficult to keep the project moving. Something that made a big difference for 2HG in a positive way was when we started working with our current mixing engineer, Cory Bergeron. It’s scary to bring someone else into a project that feels so close to you, but Cory’s mixes really elevated our sound and working with him has allowed me to prioritize where I’m putting my energy.
