We recently connected with Carleshia Walker and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Carleshia, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
In order to be successful, I believe that one must have a very strong sense of self. It is a personal journey and determined by both the small and large wins that happen daily in the pursuit toward becoming everything we want to be in life. In today’s society and with the world of social media, it is very easy to be distracted and compare another’s success stories to your own. We have to remember that each of us are different and have different goals we’d like to accomplish in life. I believe that the definition of success is determined by each individual and their personal efforts in life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the proud Broker and Owner of Walker Realty Co. licensed in MO and KS and servicing the Kansas City metro area and Carleshia Walker Realty licensed in TX and servicing the Greater Houston area. My companies assist clients in buying, selling, leasing, and investing in both residential and commercial real estate. My job as a realtor is to educate my clients on home ownership, building wealth through real estate, and ultimately showing them how to acquire and leverage one of the largest assets they’ll ever own. As a broker, my job is to help my agents through real estate. I educate them on the processes and systems, negotiation tactics, and all other aspects so that they can help their clients get to the closing table seamlessly. I also help them to build their businesses into empires and create wealth for themselves. Many people have questions about how to get started and are sometimes unsure of what questions to ask (whether on the agent side or the buyer/seller side). My job is to share the information that I’ve mastered to help others get to their goals.
I started my journey in real estate back in 2013 and the first home I ever sold was to my parents. As you’d probably expect, it was a life changing experience for a lot of different reasons. Ironically, I only sold 2 homes that year and wasn’t sure if real estate was going to work out but after mastering my systems and tools and truly treating my business like a business, my clientele grew tremendously. In May of 2021 I opened my very own brokerage, Walker Realty Co. with the motto, “Excellence. Every Client. Every Time”. The motto comes from Colossians 3:23 which reads, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” No matter what type of real estate transaction a person is involved in, they deserve an excellent experience. In July of 2023, my family and I relocated to the Houston, TX area and I opened my second brokerage, Carleshia Walker Realty carrying the same excellent standards.
In full transparency, being a real estate professional is not at all an easy career, especially when you first are getting started. It is all about consistency, determination, extreme discipline, and having an unmeasurable amount of faith. You have to continue to push past your feelings and trust that it will work out exactly as it should. You also have to learn to manage your time, your money, and your business without anyone supervising you. Real estate is both ever-changing and ever-growing, therefore you must also have a commitment to learning new market trends, negotiation tactics, and industry norms. Overall, I’ve learned that being myself is what makes my client’s choose me and I will continue to be authentically myself as I continue on my journey.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe that authentically being myself has helped to build my reputation within the real estate market. I am the same in person, on social media, and with each of my clients. My commitment to serving with excellence is not just in business but is also in all aspects of my life. I believe that when you do something, no matter what it is, your best efforts should always be given. Another attributing factor to my reputation is my willingness to help others. When I first started in real estate and when I first started my own brokerage, it was extremely hard to find other supporting agents/brokers to share their knowledge. Once I mastered the skills, I decided that I would go against the grain and help others in the way that I needed help.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In my decade long career in real estate, I’ve made tons of pivots. One of the biggest was moving with my family to the Houston, TX area. For several reasons, my brokerage in Kansas City, MO did not thrive as anticipated and I decided to scale down. The experience of brokering over 25 new industry agents was a learning curve and though it did not work out exactly how I envisioned, it still worked in the long run. With the learned knowledge and skills, I was able to open a second brokerage in Houston, TX and am now building much differently to avoid the same hiccups as before. I’ve learned that pivoting is sometime necessary to avoid total demise and with proper vetting, self reflection, and better tools and processes I am now building a much stronger company.
