We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carlen Gedye. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carlen below.
Carlen, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
The photo is not just through the actual camera lens- but through the photographers lens and perspective. I have learned and continued to learn the craft of photography simply by just taking my camera out and photographing simple things/moments that capture my eye. What I think is beautiful or powerful, may not be to others, but that is the beauty of it all.
To speed up my learning process, I could reach out to others in the field and ask questions and take courses. I still plan on doing that.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Photography has always been more than just a hobby for me—it’s a way of seeing the world. What first sparked my interest was the simple joy of freezing a moment in time, whether it was a golden sunset over a quiet landscape or the spontaneous smile between loved ones. Over time, that spark grew into a deep passion for capturing stories through my lens.
My work ranges from the raw beauty of wildlife and sweeping landscapes to the intimate, heartfelt connections in family and couple portraits. Whether I’m waiting quietly for the perfect shot in nature or guiding people through a fun, relaxed session, I strive to create images that feel real, honest, and timeless.
My business is called CKG Photography. I am still working to home in on my craft and build my niche. I would say I am most proud of the gift of being able to see a moment and capture its entirety and bringing joy to others whilst doing that.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of clientele for me has been word-of-mouth and referrals. There’s something powerful about people sharing their experience and recommending my work to friends and family—it builds a sense of trust before we even meet. Social media has also played a huge role, especially through sharing content and behind-the-scenes moments that give people a glimpse into both my style and personality. Over time, it’s created a community of people who feel connected to my work and are excited to be a part of it.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being a creative is being able to take an idea, a feeling, or a fleeting moment—and turn it into something tangible that resonates with others. Whether it’s capturing the quiet emotion in a portrait or the wild beauty of nature, knowing that my work can evoke a memory, inspire someone, or even just make them feel something—that’s what makes it all worth it. It’s also incredibly fulfilling to see growth in my craft and to have the freedom to express myself through visual storytelling.
